About the Company Founded in 1982, Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions is the world’s leading supplier of real time contamination monitoring systems and airborne particle counters. Lighthouse offers the most complete line of contamination monitoring solutions available that include Airborne Particle Counters, Microbial Samplers, and Liquid Particle Counters, as well as Temperature / Humidity sensors. Recently added production of air purification products, manufacturing of personal protective equipment. These solutions are now found in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, data storage, biotechnology, aerospace, and defense industry plants worldwide.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for creating and developing new products or making improvements to existing products. Uses knowledge of industrial design, graphic design, mechanical design, electrical design, and systems engineering to develop products that meet the company’s requirements. Influences the product design architecture to improve the ergonomics, function, and appearance of the products. Will use computer-assisted engineering design software and equipment to perform assignments. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and complicated tasks. Can work independently to accomplish project design requirements.A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. May lead and direct the work of others.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • in a small, cross-functional project team to design and develop contamination monitoring instruments and accessories.
  • applications and user requirements to identify key factors to be addressed in the design features. Human interface, ergonomics, environmental impact, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost of ownership are some examples.
  • and analyze data such as design proposals, specifications, and costs to determine feasibility of design.
  • product requirements and functional specifications that drive performance, durability, and reliability for instruments, and subsystems.
  • systems engineering principles to combine components such as catalog parts, PCBA’s, wire assemblies, electro-mechanical parts, and custom mechanical parts into a cohesive system that functions efficiently and meets the product requirements.
  • with Project Management to create budgets, schedules, and organize project tasks.
  • written protocols, reports, presentations, and perform technical design reviews to solicit feedback on design activities.
  • and execute test methods to characterize product performance. Critically examine test results and make design changes or recommendations to the design team.
  • assembly and testing of instruments to drive proof of concept, prototype, and Beta phase activities.
  • of mechanical design and manufacturing documentation including: inspection procedures, assembly instructions, manufacturing processes, test methods, purchase specifications, BOMs, and component drawings per the company’s operating procedures.
  • and maintain Autodesk Inventor CAD models, including assemblies, components, export files, and fabrication drawings within a PDM environment.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • with a variety of fabrication materials and processes including: machining, brake formed sheet metal, injection molding, 3D printing, extrusions, and laser/water cutting.

Travel:

May occasionally travel to other LWS US or International locations, or manufacturing suppliers, customer sites, and trade shows.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university and at least 12 years of experience in a related field, or 17 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
