Job Summary:

We at BGSF are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Administrator & Automation Engineer to join the Cloud Infrastructure Operations team for a prestigious client in MD. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing existing AWS infrastructure, automating processes, and improving documentation and workflows. You will support day-to-day operations, ensure compliance, and help manage key systems such as AMI compliance, vulnerability management, and IAM governance via Terraform.

Your primary focus will be on maintenance with the opportunity to contribute to future developments after becoming familiar with existing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • AWS Cloud Administration: Oversee the maintenance and support of AWS infrastructure, ensuring systems remain compliant and operational.
  • Automation: Maintain and enhance automation workflows using Python, Terraform, and YAML, while troubleshooting and resolving incidents.
  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Manage and maintain AWS infrastructure services, focusing on VPC-level components rather than application or load balancers.
  • Windows AMI: Support the team in managing monthly Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) for security and vulnerability updates.
  • Documentation: Analyze, improve, and document processes and automation to ensure maintainability and facilitate long-term enhancements.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in daily Zoom stand-up meetings and bi-weekly onsite syncs with the team.
  • Process Improvement: Help re-architect and improve existing processes by transitioning to modern technology stacks (e.g., replacing Splunk with Pathfinder).
  • Incident Management: Address and resolve issues with existing automation workflows, ensuring smooth operations.

Required Skills:

  • AWS Cloud: Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud administration, infrastructure, and services.
  • Terraform: Expertise in managing cloud infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Python: Ability to read, troubleshoot, and adjust Python code used for automation workflows.
  • GitOps: Experience with Git workflows to manage infrastructure automation pipelines.
  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Proficiency in managing cloud infrastructure services at the VPC level.
  • YAML: Experience with YAML for building automation pipelines.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Windows AMI: Familiarity with managing AMI images and basic PowerShell knowledge.
  • Splunk/Pathfinder: Experience with Splunk or similar open-source monitoring tools like Prometheus and Alert Manager.
  • Linux Fundamentals: Proficiency with the command line interface, managing server fleets, and remote access.

Team and Culture:

  • The team primarily works with AWS but has some exposure to Azure and GCP.
  • The team values collaboration, with regular onsite syncs (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and remote meetings.
  • Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of digging deep into implementations to troubleshoot and suggest improvements.

Additional Information:

  • This role primarily focuses on maintenance of existing workflows but offers opportunities to contribute to future projects and process improvements.
