Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist will work alongside the HR/Payroll Manager on the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring that weekly payroll is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. This position also assists employees with payroll-related questions. Must be able to work quickly yet efficiently ensuring a high standard of accuracy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for processing multiple state bi-weekly payrolls for 800+ employees, monthly stipend and bonus payments.
- Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions.
- Processes payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Processes payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Being familiar with processing benefit paperwork.
- Being very familiar with the employee onboarding process which includes filling out I-9's and other tax paperwork.
- Maintains the maintenance of employee records.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Reconciles payroll to the general ledger.
- Process unemployment claims as needed.
- Manage other administrative tasks related to human resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with the Mac operating system.
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- HR experience a plus
- Schooling in accounting or payroll a plus
- Minimum of one to two years of experience processing payroll.
- Knowledge of garnishment and unemployment processing.
- Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now
