Must Haves

  • 3-5+ years' experience as a relay/substation technician commissioning substation equipment
  • Professional understanding of transmission system protection
  • Professional working experience with SCADA
  • Highly skilled with testing of electromechanical relays
  • Professional experience with relay testing software ENOSERV RTS
  • Skilled in Powerline carrier protection systems
  • In-depth knowledge of NERC/SERC compliance standards
  • Proficient in commissioning and working with various Digital Fault Recorder (DFR) manufactures
  • Proficient in reading and utilizing DC control circuitry drawings, ac three-line drawings, panel wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, and all other technical prints associated with the protection of transmission equipment.
  • Professional skills involving troubleshooting and repair transmission protection systems
  • Well versed in numerous RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) software including, but not limited to: Cooper SMP Manager, GE DSAgile, and SEL RTAC.
  • In depth knowledge of programming, testing, and commissioning of microprocessor relays.

Job Description

Insight Global is currently seeking a Substation Technician for a direct hire opportunity in Lexington, KY area. This individual will support a large utility company ensuring that electricity gets routed through the stations on its way to residential or commercial areas at the correct voltage. Daily responsibilities include performing maintenance and repairs to relays in electrical power stations, troubleshooting circuit breakers, testing different components, and calibrating relays, and overall making sure that everything is functioning properly. It can be expected that this technician will be also be reading electrical diagrams and schematics to learn where issues are and use the information to install new components. This position is located onsite in Lexington, KY and report to the job sites on a need be basis. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with switcher (SEL) relays.
