Structural Designer

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for producing industry standard corrugated and foam samples based on customer and product specifications and creating innovative structural designs to assist Sales Representatives in obtaining new packaging business.

Responsible for assisting in material (corrugated board) and packaged product testing including, but not limited to, TAPPI test methods, ISTA and UN Hazardous Material package testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee must be able to:

·Work with Sales, Marketing and Customer Service to create presentations from concept to completion.

·Produce design prototypes, and review prototypes for accuracy and feasibility.

·      Cut samples on CAD table.

·      Use CAD software to develop 2-D and 3-D design layouts.

·      Work on layout of graphic designs.

·      Develop and distribute creative designs, specifications, product and technical information that will satisfy the customer’s requirements and efficiently utilize our manufacturing equipment and materials.

·      Design for manufacturing success for customer’s packing operations.

·      Establish processes & procedures for the structural design department.

·      Ensure compliance with active customer specifications.

·      Understand customer quality expectations in relationship to our quality offerings. Work with quality team to understand and fix customer quality related issues.

·      Lead and participate on projects and manage priorities based on customer and business needs.

·      Actively seek opportunities to acquire knowledge and share information with fellow designers, internal & external customers.

·      Drive innovation, identify cost savings, and margin improvement opportunities.

·      Support customer’s automatic equipment goals of reduced downtime and improved throughput.

·      Provide service and customer support during field visits.

·      Establish and maintain rapport with customer, facilitating friendly and professional interaction and communication.

·      Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
