Job Title: Organic Synthesis Chemist

Location: Rockford, IL 61101

Duration: 6 Months

Shift: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.

Pay Rate: $26.50/hr


Position Summary:

  • The scientist is responsible for conducting product and application testing to evaluate experimental samples related to manufacturing process optimize.
  • Scientist will assist with validation work related to testing chromatography resin for particle size, protein recovery, and flow characteristics.
  • The scientist will often work under the guidance of senior personnel.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Completion of synthesis experiments and product testing for process optimization.
  • Maintain process documentation in the form of batch record sheets, reports, and lab notebooks.
  • Participate on cross functional collaborative project team.
  • Assisting more senior chemists with their work.
  • Using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform the water and solvent washing of chromatography resins/gels.
  • Perform analysis of compounds and reaction mixtures using common methods: (NMR, HPLC, UV/VIS, FTIR)
  • Involvement in process improvement and development of manufacturing and test methods.
  • Other duties include cleaning, assembling, and disassembling equipment.
  • Other projects / duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Chemistry, preferably from an ACS (American Chemical Society) accredited program
  • A thorough understanding of chemistry at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience with general laboratory techniques such as distillation, filtration, closed transfer, reaction chemistry, crystallization, rotary evaporators, and small/large scale glassware.
  • Analysis techniques such as pH, UV/Vis, NMR, IR.
  • Ability to safely handle flammable solvents.
  • Ability to routinely lift 40 lbs.
