Feldesman Leifer LLP (Feldesman), a federal regulatory and litigation firm with offices in Washington, DC, and Sacramento, CA, seeks a senior-level associate to join its California office’s active litigation practice. The Sacramento team represents a variety of health care providers, including federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), hospitals and health systems, and air ambulance companies, in federal and state courts, mediation, arbitration, and before administrative agencies. Typical cases include disputes with the State of California over Medi-Cal reimbursements, conflicts with managed care plans and insurers, and defense against False Claims Act allegations.


The position also involves handling pre-litigation activities such as conducting internal investigations, managing self-disclosures, engaging with federal and state agencies, providing compliance counseling, and advising on complex federal and state programs. Additionally, the firm represents federal grantees in legal and administrative matters concerning federal funding and compliance with Public Health Service Act programs. We also provide extensive training for client groups in these specialized practice areas.


The ideal candidate is an experienced trial and appellate litigator who demonstrates energy, independence, and an enthusiasm for complex cases. Key responsibilities include drafting trial and appellate briefs, conducting discovery, and participating in evidentiary hearings and oral arguments. There may be occasional opportunities to assist with transactional matters.


Qualifications & Requirements:


  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school; must be an active member in good standing of the California Bar
  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience and strong academic credentials required; judicial clerkship experience is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal and analytical abilities
  • Team player
  • Highly self-motivated, proactive, and a collaborative team player
  • Eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work per week.
