Foundation for Blind Children Center for Assistive Technology Training Program is currently seeking qualified candidates for a full time or part time TVI Assistive Technology Trainer position The Center for Assistive Technology Training (CATT) Southwest Program is a partnership between FBC, Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind (AIDB), and American Printing House for the Blind (APH). CATT Southwest’s mission is to provide assistive technology support, outreach, and training to teachers, students, families, service providers, organizational leaders and administrators, and all others interested in the success of children, youth, and adults with visual impairments. Devices are provided by APH, and training and equipment delivery are coordinated by FBC Educational Specialists and support personnel. We are honored to serve six states throughout the American Southwest: Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.



The role of an Assistive Technology (AT) Trainer in the CATT Southwest Program is to deliver targeted technology training and support services to educators, related service providers, AT specialists, administrators, parents, students, adult clients and consumers within the regional network who are part of our visual impairment community. CATT Southwest AT Trainers are highly creative, self-motivated, personally driven individuals with a professional investment in and dedication to the success of individuals with visual impairments. They have firsthand knowledge of visual impairment and an understanding of the unique impact that it has on information access for children and adults who are blind or have low vision, including those with multiple disabilities.

Duties include:

  • Provide targeted training to professionals, students, parents, and others within the CATT Southwest regional community
  • Travel throughout the Southwest region (Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah)
  • Deliver training in a variety of settings (small group, one-on-one, large group, workshop, conference, etc.) and in a variety of formats (in person, virtual, hybrid)
  • Provide follow-up services and technological assistance to participants who receive training, assessing levels of training success and determining new or ongoing needs
  • Document evidence of communication, preparation, training delivery and outcomes, and follow-up efforts
  • Assist in developing program content, curricula, presentation materials, training plans, and resources, including videos and online courses
  • Attend and present at national conferences, workshops, and other events in coordination with members of the CATT Southeast and/or Northwest teams
  • Assist with running exhibit or display tables at regional and national events
  • Work closely and positively with CATT Southwest team members, including core leadership and training staff as well as contract specialists throughout the region
  • Collaborate with APH staff, CATT Southwest team members, and members of other CATT regional teams to develop online content, resources, and hardware/software products
  • Expand knowledge of assistive technology devices, equipment, skills, strategies, and instructional methods through research and ongoing professional development
  • Remain current and up-to-date with advances in assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments, and make recommendations for the requisition of new technology that will benefit members of the regional community
  • Maintain and care for a CATT Southwest library of devices and products to be used for training purposes
  • Create a weekly personal productivity plan
  • Attend virtual meetings with CATT Southwest team members, with topics to include planning, professional development, and weekly reporting of activities
  • Maintain an online calendar of scheduled trainings, program meetings, and other events
  • Perform other duties as assigned




Applicant Requirements:

  • Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Certification is required
  • Three plus years of experience providing educational, expanded core curricular, rehabilitative, or assistive technology support services to students or adult clients with visual impairments
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot business/office equipment (phone, printer, scanner, computer, etc.), including hardware and software issues
  • Proficient keyboarding skills and use of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and online apps or sites for teamwork and file-sharing
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow state and federal FERPA/HIPAA laws
  • Ability to travel locally and long-distance, independently and on a regular basis
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by state Department of Public Safety
  • State-issued Driver’s License or ID that meets current standards for interstate travel
