The Orthopedic Technician will be responsible for providing assistance to patients, providers and other members of the healthcare team. The duties involve specialized patient care tasks including casting, splinting, dressing changes, measurement and fitting of orthopedic braces and other devices and ambulatory aids and patient education.

Education - HS Diploma or GED and Completion of Orthopedic Technician Training Program.

Experience - At least one (1) year full-time work experience in a hospital, clinic or office setting, working directly in the treatment of orthopedic patients.

Licensure/Certification - Current Certification as an Orthopedic Technician by the National Board of Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) or registered orthopedic technician by the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (CASOP).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopedic conditions based on the understanding of anatomical structures and their relationship with one another. Prepare and know the specific uses of all equipment and supplies used in orthopedic procedures. Ability to apply, adjust and remove all common orthopedic devices using standard practice as a guide. Possess knowledge of theory of skin or skeletal traction. Knowledge of the proper application of aseptic techniques in dressing changes, removal of sutures or staples and in the set up of sterile fields. Differentiate sterilization materials and techniques required for specific instruments or procedures
