Job Summary:

You will judge the quality of installations based on experience, specifications, manufacturers recommendations, and Hutton standards.


Duties/Responsibilities:


Character & Culture

  • Understand and mirror behavior relative to Hutton’s cultural values: lead, inspire, respect, construct.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders beyond the jobsite.
  • Elevate our team and the owner experience by leading, coaching, and mentoring project stakeholders on our expectations.


Risk Management, Communication & Relationships

  • Always accommodate and represent the owner’s best interest.
  • Demonstrates an ability to balance the workload of multiple projects at a time.
  • Work directly with other team members during project assignments; both in the office and in the field.
  • Provide company communication and acknowledgement on what we are doing well and where we can improve in terms of QAQC.
  • Collaborate with leadership team to develop, prepare and implement a proactive QAQC culture which includes programs that ensure the quality of our work installations.
  • Incorporate (and assist in defining) Hutton’s standards into all aspects of the project.
  • Train jobsite leadership (current and new) on Hutton quality standards and expectations
  • Uphold safety standards and encourage fellow team members to do the same
  • Conduct monthly team meetings to discuss lessons learned
  • As needed, update Starting Strong, Building Strong, Finishing Strong and punch list standards for projects


Pre-Construction

  • Assist engineering with technical development of drawings and specifications for projects and stay involved through the completion of construction
  • Lead construction document reviews and provide clear instructions regarding constructability and quality while maintaining design intent
  • Review and approve submittals as needed
  • Attend preconstruction meetings for critical scope(s)of work
  • Review project drawings for quality control planning and coordination


Build Assist

  • Attend on-site meetings during construction and perform site observation reports regularly
  • Review and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s)
  • Coordinate consultant site walk-throughs (punch)
  • Conduct final walk-through (punch)with owner
  • Maintain and ensure all QAQC records (inspections, tests, compliance checks, etc.), materials and resources are up to date, organized and easily accessible to all team members
  • Attend jobsite phase preconstruction meetings, leading discussions on expected fabrication and installation details and quality standards
  • Complete jobsite walkthroughs, focusing on installations and ensuring the build process meets Hutton standards
  • Be a resource for jobsite leadership to resolve unanticipated challenges on the jobsite
  • Assist project managers in addressing potential jobsite corrections
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, and compliance checks.
  • Prepare and submit quality control reports, including findings, non-conformities, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Inspection of foundations, structures, pavement, earthwork, piping systems, structural steel components, electrical systems, equipment installations, and components to ensure compliance with industry standards, engineering drawings, and project specifications
  • Witness various tests such as soil compaction, concrete strength, hydrostatic, pneumatic, visual inspections, dimensional checks, weld inspections, loop checks, and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods (e.g., ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing).
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant codes and standards, such as ASTM, AASHTO, ANSI, ASME, API, AWS, AISC, NEC, IEC and local building codes.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards relating to civil, piping, structural steel and electrical. If not knowledgeable in all fields, ability to get up-to-speed quickly in areas where inexperienced.
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate plans and specifications
  • Able to do repetitive detailed work, being careful about detail and thorough in completing tasks
  • Basic knowledge in navigating software including Bluebeam, Navisworks and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to conduct effective training
  • Excellent technical, written and oral communication skills
  • Able to clearly communicate instructions
  • Able to lead and motivate others to accomplish tasks safely
  • Able to productively work in a team environment
  • Able to solve problems quickly with tact and diplomacy

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow OSHA, and Hutton safety protocols


Special Requirements & Licenses:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Certified preferred
  • Having a certification such as Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), NDT Level I or II, Structural Steel Inspector (SSI), or Electrical Inspector or similar is preferred.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering, construction management or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • At least ten years of construction site leader experience


Work Environment:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times
  • Ability to travel throughout active construction sites as required to conduct QAQC inspections
