Salary/Hourly Rate: $29.00 - $34.28

Location: Atlantic City, NJ


Part-time, 21 hours per week vacancy available for an energetic, team-oriented Youth Services Librarian with a strong public service commitment. Provide library service and programming for and with young adults and those who work with young adults. Constant contact and collaboration with young adults (typically ages 12-18) including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities. The ideal candidate will work well in a team environment but also be a self-starter. Schedule flexibility available.


Education/Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent preferred, Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience in working for and with young adults (ages 12 to 18).


Job Responsibilities:

  • Computer, customer service, communication, and de-escalation skills. Bilingual is a plus.
  • Programming for children & teens (especially story time for children)
  • Outreach (especially school visits)
  • Collection development
  • Supervising support staff
  • Respond to requests in person, over the phone, and/or via email to answer questions and locate information.
  • Teach a variety of skills to patrons of all ages, particularly research skills.
  • Keep up with information management trends.
  • Create and publish web-based content including research tutorials, subject guides, course guides, promotional spots, and information pieces.
  • Manage patron access to resources.

  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to work with the public and with people of all ages.
  • Ability to operate a computer, library software, web browsers, and an e-mail interface.
  • Capacity to read, write, and speak in English sufficiently to perform duties in person and on telephone.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, lift, stand, and ambulate, as needed, as relevant to the position. Daily tasks require lifting, carrying, moving, and manipulating books and other library material, as well as pushing a loaded cart full of books.
  • Occasional travel to meetings or training outside of the library.
