Description of position:

West Physics has an immediate opening for an entry level Health Physicist. This position requires a solid educational background in health physics, a strong interest and aptitude for learning, and a can-do attitude with an excellent work ethic. The successful candidate should possess stronger leadership, communication, and management skills. This position will be best suited for someone with excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently as well as part of a project team, and with strong technical proficiency. The ability to exercise a high degree of responsibility and autonomy (once trained) is integral to this position. Primary Responsibilities:

• Answer radiation safety and health physics questions from client personnel.

• Assist client personnel with radiation safety-related compliance activities.

• Perform/assist in nuclear medicine, diagnostic radiology, and industrial and academic radiation safety audits.

• Perform/assist in radioactive materials (RAM) licensing activities on behalf of clients, including license applications, renewals, and potential enforcement activity consulting activity and response.

• Perform/assist in dosimetry review, worker and patient dose estimates, and fetal dose estimates.

• Perform/assist in shielding designs and conducting shielding verification testing.

• Perform/assist in leak-testing and other radiological assay and analysis operations.

• Conduct/assist dose investigations and ALARA reviews.

• Assist health physicists and senior health physicists with more complex consulting duties.

• Provide mentorship, guidance and training to junior health physicists.

• Other related duties as needed.


Prerequisites:

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Health Physics or related field are also accepted.

• At least 1 year of Health Physics work experience in either a clinical, hospital, university, or industrial health physics setting.

• Familiarity and proficiency with basic health physics activities (e.g., survey instrument used, survey technique, leak testing, dosimetry review, etc.) and a willingness and aptitude to master more advanced health physics skills and activities.

• The ability to understand and apply regulations from a wide variety of State and Federal entities to a variety of client situations, as well as the ability to write effective policies and procedures, Radiation Safety Manuals, and user-friendly forms.

• Effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to be professional,

courteous, and convincing or persuasive in discussions with clients, regulators, and colleagues.

• Strong technical proficiency, the ability to manage multiple complex assignments concurrently and to completion, very strong attention to detail, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service.

• The ability to troubleshoot problems, brainstorm options, and come to logical conclusions that best serve the company mission and its customers.

• Excellent time management and organizational skills.

• The ability to work well under pressure, to prioritize tasks, and to manage multiple priorities and deadlines properly.

• A working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as very good

general computer skills. Familiarity with Apple computers (i.e., macOS) and applications is a plus.
