We are seeking a seasoned Vice President of Manufacturing to lead our production efforts and scale our manufacturing capabilities from prototype to full-scale production. This is a pivotal role that will directly impact our company's growth and success. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with a proven track record of building and managing high-performing manufacturing teams in a fast-paced startup environment, with a focus on working with external partners for microfabrication and a demonstrated history of successfully bringing products to market.
Responsibilities
- Production Leadership: Oversee all aspects of manufacturing operations, including production planning, scheduling, quality control, and cost management, working closely with contract foundries for microfabrication processes. Guide the transition from prototype to full-scale production.
- Team Building: Recruit, mentor, and develop a world-class manufacturing team capable of delivering exceptional results.
- Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers, including contract foundries specializing in microfabrication, to ensure timely delivery of high-quality materials and components, and support the transition to mass production.
- Product Launch: Lead the manufacturing efforts to successfully launch the product into the market, coordinating with all relevant departments and external partners to ensure a smooth and timely transition.
- Process Optimization: Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and reduce costs throughout the entire production process, including coordination with contract foundries and optimization for scaling.
- Scaling: Develop and execute a comprehensive manufacturing strategy to support the company's rapid growth and expansion plans, with a focus on scalable partnerships with contract foundries for microfabrication and a clear roadmap for product launch and market penetration.
Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing leadership role, ideally within the hardware or microelectronics (MEMS, III-Vs, solar, etc.) industry, with significant experience working with contract foundries for microfabrication processes and a demonstrated history of successfully bringing products to market.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field. Advanced degree (MS, MBA) is a plus.
- Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of microfabrication processes and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with external partners to scale production from prototype to high-volume manufacturing. Understanding of photovoltaics, optics/photonics, or high vacuum systems is a plus.
- Leadership: Proven ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve ambitious goals, including managing relationships with external partners and navigating the complexities of product launch.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization, external stakeholders, and contract foundries, ensuring clear and transparent communication throughout the product launch process.

This position is based at our facility in Somerville, MA.
