The Company


Cellino is building a precision platform that personalizes human cells for all. Stem cell-derived regenerative medicines are poised to cure some of the toughest diseases within this decade, including Parkinson’s, diabetes, and heart disease. Patient-specific cells provide the safest, most effective cures for these indications. Currently, large scale production of stem cell therapies is challenging due to extensive manual handling, high variability, and expensive manufacturing costs. Cellino’s vision is to enable healthier lives worldwide with personalized human cells.


The Role


We are seeking a hands-on senior mechanical engineer to lead the prototyping and production development of our innovative fluidic and mechatronic systems. Working closely with our R&D team, you will convert cutting-edge research concepts into functional mechanical designs. You will then shepherd these designs through multiple phases of prototyping into production. Key areas include laboratory consumables, liquid handling systems, and mechatronics. Your role is crucial in transitioning successful prototypes into manufacturing for final production.

Candidates should supply a portfolio of their work and be ready to present an example of a shipping product where they were the major technical contributor from prototyping to production.


Responsibilities


  • Collaborate closely with R&D engineers and cell biologists to understand new product concepts, requirements, and designs for fluidic and mechatronic systems
  • Enjoy the details of part design, material selection, and manufacturing techniques
  • Are familiar with a variety of manufacturing methods for creating high-volume and high-performance products
  • Are hands-on and can work across disciplines to prototype your designs and solve problems
  • Set a high standard for technical documentation and design reviews
  • Can communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers across the globe
  • Implement design for manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure quality and efficiency in production
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex mechanical design projects
  • Research and adopt new prototyping technologies and manufacturing techniques


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development
  • Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with prototyping methods (3D printing, CNC, fabrication)
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, casting, machining)
  • Expertise in design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles
  • Ability to perform detailed tolerance analysis and GD&T
  • Experience in testing/validation of mechanical designs and systems
  • Skilled at technical writing for documentation, test plans, design reviews, etc.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials, fasteners, sensors, and related components


Preferred Skills and Background

  • Understanding of fluid dynamics, motion control, and mechatronics
  • Experience with high-volume medical or biological plastics manufacturing
  • PLM/document control systems
  • Electronics and circuit design
  • Programming skills (Python)
  • Industrial design
