Position Overview:

Brunel is seeking a Mid-Level Automation Technician with strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to join our team in Mentone, Texas. This role involves supporting upstream oil and gas operations by installing, programming, calibrating, and maintaining automation systems. The ideal candidate will have the technical expertise to commission control systems, validate control loops, and test alarms, while also providing on-site support for automation equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, program, calibrate, and repair automation and electrical equipment in onshore oil and gas operations.
• Provide on-site automation support, acting as a technical resource for facility control systems and field instrumentation (level, pressure, flow, vibration instruments).
• Maintain and repair a variety of automation and electrical systems following industry and corporate Process Control standards.
• Program and troubleshoot PLC systems, adhering to company programming practices and Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
• Utilize CMMS tools such as SAP to support and track maintenance activities.
• Identify and address instrumentation and control system issues, focusing on opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

Education: 2-year degree in Instrumentation or Automation Technology (or foreign equivalent) with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, or equivalent technical experience.

Experience: 3+ years of experience as an Automation Specialist, with at least 3+ years in the oil field.

Technical Skills:

• Advanced knowledge of well RTU design, programming, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in analog and discrete instrumentation and serial/ethernet communications protocols.
• Familiarity with API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA technical standards and guidelines.
• Intermediate skills in maintaining PLC programs (ladder logic, function block, structured text) and HMI interfaces.

Work Environment: Ability to work 12-hour shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays) and participate in on-call rotations. Must be willing to travel to various work sites and operate aerial manlift platforms.

Safety: Proven ability to work safely around electrical and automation systems.

Technology: Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Windows OS.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Automation with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• 7+ years of oil field experience, with 3+ years in upstream oil and gas automation.
• Expertise in Allen-Bradley and Rosemount systems, with the ability to interpret Cause & Effects, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control narratives.
• Intermediate network troubleshooting skills for control systems (ControlNet, Ethernet I/P, fiber optics, RF communications).
