Your main responsibilities will be to lead and oversee the design and development of custom machinery and mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and client requirements. As the Mechanical Engineer you will:
- Specify materials and components for conveyor systems and machinery, considering structural integrity, welding, fastening methods, and appropriate sizing of steel, iron, bolts, gearboxes, motors, chains, pulleys, belts, and conveyors.
- Utilize AutoCAD Inventor or similar CAD software to create detailed designs and engineering drawings.
- Apply knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics to design fluid power systems.
- Supervise the work of one other designer and potentially lead contract designers on project-specific tasks.
- Collaborate closely with technicians and other team members to ensure seamless project execution from design through assembly and startup.
- Occasionally travel to client sites for startup and commissioning activities, typically less than 5 days per month (approximately 25% of the time).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within industries such as wood products, packaging, mineral processing, or similar custom machinery sectors.
- Strong understanding of structural engineering principles, mechanical linkages, gear sizing, and fluid power systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Inventor or similar CAD software.
- Experience supervising or leading a team of designers or engineers is preferred
