Helps supervise the Loss Mitigation staff. Reviews monthly performance, one-on-one’s, performing bi-yearly evaluations, plans team meetings, trainings and follow-up training sessions as needed. Ensures that established policies and procedures are followed. Has a strong understanding of Legal/Attorney Accounts, Real Estate Collections, Bankruptcy Law, Overdrawn Accounts, Garnishments, Levies, Real Estate Owned Properties, and Credit Reporting functions and disputes. Prepares monthly departmental reports for tracking and Management purposes. Ensures that Compliance and Legal standards are maintained and updated in each area of the Department. Supervises personnel in the absence of the Manager and Assistant Manager. Performs miscellaneous Department duties and tasks as needed. Represents the Credit Union in legal matters and court appearances as required.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively and efficiently completes Department functions.
  • Reviews accounts for attorney/legal or small claims actions, sends to Manager/Assistant Manager for final approval.
  • Communicates directly with Attorney and Legal Personnel.
  • Creates reports for Senior Management and the Board of Directors including graphs of department statistics and Call Report data.
  • Represents the Credit Union at Court hearings, meetings, projects, trainings and others as required.
  • Performs miscellaneous Department duties as assigned.
  • Acts as a first line supervisor to assist staff with difficult situations, questions and escalated phone calls.
  • Ensures that Department and legal area functions are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations and that they are properly and thoroughly documented.
  • Approves extensions, charge-offs, repossessions, limit reinstatements, credit updates and fee/interest rebates.
  • Thorough understanding of Metro 2 Guidelines and required updates.
  • Effectively trains and assists in supervising Department staff, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Trains staff on Credit Union policies, procedures, and applicable legal regulations.
  • Ability to determine whether a solution can be found in training, process improvement, coaching, performance correction, or environmental and/or management intervention.
  • Organizes cross-training of Department personnel.
  • Conducts follow-up training sessions and updates as necessary.
  • Assists in directing, coordinating, and ensuring employees are held accountable for job functions and performance.
  • Coordinates regular meetings with Department staff for informational trainings and updates.
  • Recognize areas that need improvement and update policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant concerns.
  • Ensuring that professional business relationships are established and maintained with members, the community, and with trade and governmental organizations by adhering to the Credit Union’s Core Values.
  • Maintains the Credit Union's professional reputation by demonstrating honesty, integrity, and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Utilizes effective human relations skills and persuasion to calm irate members and resolve negative situations. Discusses possible financial arrangements, informs members of possible legal actions and provides or suggests financial counseling as means to arrive at suitable payment arrangements.
  • Responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Provides leadership to department staff when Loss Mitigation Manager and Assistant Manager are away.
  • Keeps work area clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Completes special projects as required.
  • Assists in developing new policies and procedures as well as job descriptions and trainings.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Training/Education/Certification

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Required Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of financial institution functions.
  • Supervisory experience.

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to train and assist others.
  • Good communication abilities.
  • Able to work well in stressful situations.
  • Well organized.
  • Able to use computer, calculator, telephone, and other basic business equipment.
