Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

·        Build culturally responsive relationships with students, families, and team members.

·        Conduct annual parent/teacher conferences and additional parent/teacher conferences as needed.

·        Assign tasks, oversee, and mentor assistant teachers and part time staff in his or her classroom.

·        Develop a comprehensive knowledge of state regulations, Paths to QUALITY requirements, and Conscious Discipline.

·        Attending all required staff in-service meetings and workshops.

·        Participate in 20 hours of training per year.

·        Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions training.

·        Create weekly lesson plans based on a theme chosen by the teacher using our provided lesson plan template.

·        Maintain 10 learning centers with materials for children to explore during free play and center time. These include reading, writing, math, science, dramatic play, art, sensory, blocks, fine motor, and music.

·        Implement lesson plans while also maintaining flexibility for children’s needs and interests.

·        Teach children developmentally appropriate skills according to individual needs (cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual).

·        Manage the classroom through Conscious Discipline and establish routines and expectations. Quickly intervene as appropriate when a situation is unsafe.

·        Greet each child and family upon arrival and connect at dismissal.

·        Interact with all children throughout the day during each activity.

·        Communicate with parents on a regular basis through the brightwheel app, in-person conversations, or phone calls.

·        Have a constant awareness of how many children are in the room and maintain required ratios.

·        Facilitate mealtimes – set the table, serve food, demonstrate manners, complete appropriate documentation, assist children with clean up.

·        Assist children with diapering and/or toileting and hand washing. This may include lifting children ten to thirty pounds onto the changing table. 

·        Clean and sanitize tables, changing tables, and toys.

·        Create a calming environment during naptime, pat children as needed, and provide alternate activities for non-nappers. 


Expectations: Lead teachers must possess a love of children and a love of teaching. They must be creative, assertive, quick thinking, patient, and safety oriented. Lead teachers should be able to listen and communicate well with children, parents, and other team members. They must work well with others and be dependable and trustworthy. It is imperative that lead teachers can remain calm in all situations and manage time well. A caring demeanor, flexibility and energy are also key attributes.


Qualifications: Lead teachers must be a minimum of eighteen years old and have or be working towards a current CDA, Early Childhood Degree, or Elementary Education Degree.
