 Pipe Fabrication Shop Foreman            


1.0              Function


1.1              The Shop Foreman is responsible for managing all systems, processes, inputs and outputs of the Fabrication Shop. They will plan and monitor the day-to-day running of the Fabrication Shop, manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors and evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data and metrics. The primary duties of the position include managing the production schedule, working with project managers & vendors, ensuring adherence to company policies, supervising shop personnel, and providing constructive feedback to company management.

2.0              Authority


2.1              The Shop Foreman is empowered by the Director of Operations of the corporation. He/she will carry out the routine business of the corporation in accordance with the goals identified by the Director of Operations in the yearly plan. The Shop Foreman retains responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of the shop and may not delegate this responsibility.


3.0              Reporting Relationships


3.1              Reports to: Director of Operations

3.2              Reporting to this Position: Welders, Fitters, Inspectors, Cutting and Prep, Safety/Training personnel


4.0         Requirements

               4.1.1     Required:           High School Diploma

4.1.2     Preferred:    Community college level or college degree from as accredited institution in operations and human resource management or another relevant field.

               4.1.3     Preferred Licensing/Registration/Certification: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)              

4.1.4     Required:           Five years’ experience in welded fabrication as an employee with increasing management responsibility.       

4.1.5     Preferred:          More than ten years’ experience as an employee with increasing management responsibility. Three years’ experience in directing the work of other employees.              

4.1.6     Required:           Valid Driver’s License

4.4         Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

4.5         Physical:

4.5.1     Body Positions: Standing, sitting.

4.5.2     Body Movements: Walking, turning head and torso, bending arms, wrist, and fingers.

               4.5.3     Body Senses:    Must have corrected vision, corrected hearing, and the ability to speak.

4.6         Mental Requirements:

4.6.1     Language: English language skills, oral and written. Must be able to communicate in English effectively, both verbally and in writing well enough to prepare and read reports and to direct specific activities of supervisor and managers.

4.6.2     Mathematics: Must be able to do routine and complex arithmetic calculations and understand operating reports and statements thoroughly. Should be familiar with the basic tenets of Statistical Process Control.

4.6.3     Mechanical: Should have an extensive knowledge of the various equipment and processes essential to the operating of the company. Should have an extensive knowledge of pipe fabrication. Should have an extensive knowledge of the various testing methods and equipment.

4.7         Working Conditions:

4.7.1     Work will be done mostly in a shop floor environment.

5.0         Duties

5.1.1     In fulfilling the function of Shop Foreman the following, but not necessarily limited to, list of duties shall be performed.

5.1.2     Develop and maintain a regular training program, in conjunction with the Director of Operations, that will increase the skills and productivity of employees, act as an incentive, and boost morale.

5.1.3     Ensure that scheduling utilizes the resources and capacity of the plant effectively and efficiently.

5.1.4     Plan and provide for necessary resource allocation related to machinery, physical plant layout, and distribution of processes.

5.1.5     Provide feedback and assistance in process design, development, implementation, and improvement.

5.1.6     Maintain a system of inspection that will ensure uniform quality control in production in accordance with the standards of GLOBE.

5.1.7     Determine man-load requirements of the shop.

5.1.8     Ensure that all jobs are properly received, tracked, processed, and shipped. Also, that all paperwork, both internal and external, are properly recorded and filed.

5.1.9     Maintain proper shop layout and coordinate with third party inspectors to maintain efficient and thorough inspection activities.

6.0         RESPONSIBILITIES

               6.1         The Shop Foreman is responsible for:

                              6.1.1     Administering the fabricating and inspection functions of Globe.

                               6.1.2     Overseeing the function of production control.

                               6.1.3     Maintaining and improving standards for all processes.

                               6.1.4     Overseeing the development of a trained, motivated, skilled workforce.

6.1.5     Putting into operation all practices, processes and activities communicated by the Director of Operations.

6.1.6     Ensuring compliance with Company policies pertaining to methods, procedures, records, reports, conduct, etc., of all employees under your jurisdiction.

6.1.7     Maintaining the premises and production shop facilities in a manner consistent with providing the best working conditions for all employees performing their job functions.

                               6.1.8     Planning proper repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment

6.1.9     Serving as a role model for all personnel through his/her enthusiasm, commitment, and willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve safety, production, and quality goals.

6.2.0     Ensuring that all Safety Rules are adhered to without exception and that the entire facility meets all applicable codes and regulations.

6.2.1     Ensuring that an objective employee performance evaluation system is maintained and used. Reviews the evaluations performed by all personnel reporting to this position. Performs evaluations on personnel reporting to this position.

6.2.2     Monitoring the operations of the business through verbal and/or written reports to ensure results of the company’s activities are proceeding according to plan, budget, and procedure.

6.2.3     Taking all opinions and suggestions under advisement before making decisions of major proportion, while assuming the full weight of the decisions themselves.

6.2.4     Answering customer inquiries regarding capability of GLOBE to fabricate jobs to their specifications for quality.

7.0         Relationships with Others

                              7.1.1     Maintains cooperative working relationships with company staff and superiors.

7.1.2     Continually strives to improve morale in the office and maintains good working relationships with all subordinates.

7.1.3     Demonstrates the ability to handle difficult situations with tact.

8.0         Measures of Performance

8.1.1     The Shop Foreman shall be performing in a satisfactory manner when the following is accomplished.

8.1.2     Safety, Production, and Quality meets or exceeds the standards set on a continuous basis.

8.1.3     The goal is 5% improvement annually.

9.0         Initiative

9.1.1     Recognizes strengths and areas requiring development and takes actions to better utilize strengths and to correct areas requiring development.

9.1.2     Pursues a continuing education program, either formal or informal, to become a more effective Globe employee.

10.0       Attendance and Reliability

10.1.1   Doesn’t abuse the position by taking excessive time or days off and always provides adequate notification of absences.
