Key responsibilities:

Lead and manage a team of database administrators and data engineers by providing guidance, assigning tasks, setting goals, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Mentor and coach the team with the technical and soft skills required to administer, maintain and secure databases containing corporate data assets. This includes all operational and analytical data stores that are used by the business.

· Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of databases and data quality solutions by overseeing tasks such as database design, installation, configuration, performance tuning, monitoring, backup and recovery, security and capacity planning.

· Develop and implement strategies and plans for effective data management aligned with the organization’s goals, ensuring that databases and data quality solutions support business objectives, and establishing best practices and standards. Effectively communicate with other technology teams, the data office, the GRC office, project teams and other business stakeholders to ensure business objectives are met and project deliverables are delivered on time.


SKILLS:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to enhance interactions with all levels of personnel from technical to executive management to convey technical concepts and promote new ideas and technology directions
  • Must have the ability and commitment to provide effective feedback and conduct performance evaluations for individual team members. This includes goal setting, clear communication of performance expectations, ability to assess employee performance objectively, coaching as necessary and the ability to recognize employees.
  • Strong ability to foster necessary cross team collaboration, with both technical and non-technical teams, to meet organizational goals and exceed customer expectations.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of database administration, data modeling, data abstraction and data federation and related concepts of each
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of data analysis and modeling as well as experience using both logical and physical entity relationship diagrams and other database and data analysis models
  • Expert knowledge of the various database architectures and an understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of each
  • Strong understanding of SOA concepts
  • Technical proficiency and experience with at least one, preferably more, of the DBMSs utilized at AFA; currently these include SQL-Server (Microsoft), DB2 (IBM), Oracle, Essbase (Hyperion), etc.
  • Experience with information architecture, management and administration - Experience with and commitment to database backup and recovery procedures and processes
  • Experience with various project management and analysis and design methodologies, tools and processes
  • Experience with managing project teams through all phases of the project lifecycle as defined by the SDLC
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop Colleagues through mentoring, coaching and management
  • Understanding of organizationally approved project management methodologies (e.g., Agile/Scrum, Waterfall)
  • Commitment to meeting organizational and departmental goals and objectives (proven on higher levels)
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, compliance requirement and the data security best practices is necessary.
  • Must possess strong business acumen, and an innate drive to deliver results. Must have ability to partner with the business to align data initiatives with organization’s goals.
  • Strong ability to understand business requirements, identify opportunities for data driven improvements, and developing a strategic roadmap for data administration and data quality initiatives.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to continuous learning and leading the team with a mentality of continuous improvement.
