The Associate Director of Procurement will work closely with both the Finance, Research, and Facilities teams to coordinate the sourcing, negotiating, purchasing, and delivery of various materials, goods, and equipment for the Organization’s Research Team.


The Associate Director of Procurement will be expected to develop and investigate supply sources and issues requests for quotes, proposals, bids, or service agreements on behalf of the Research Team. Will serve as a liaison to vendors and suppliers, to ensure smooth operations internally for our teams.


The Associate Director of Procurement will work to limit costs for the organization by negotiating discounts, performing due diligence on potential orders, and managing renewals on existing contracts. The Associate Director of Procurement will report to the Director, Finance – but will work closely with several departments.


Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Work with Coriell’s various research labs to procure needed and requested materials, goods, and equipment orders, which are to be placed in accordance with internal policies and budgets,
  • Liaison between Vendors & Suppliers on behalf of the Organization, ensuring Coriell’s interests are being considered,
  • Researching opportunities for Coriell to increase efficiency of our current ordering/procurement protocols within the Research Department, suggesting ways to optimize them,
  • Ensures Coriell is up to date with Purchasing Agreements, and implementing such agreements when they do not exist,
  • Coordinate with various levels of staff to find solutions to their order requests, specifically around tracking inventory levels, delivery of orders, and answering email correspondences in a timely manner,
  • Work with the Director of Finance to incorporate best practices into our existing and future service agreements, including sourcing new vendors/suppliers as seen fit,
  • Conduct complex work independently, with minimal supervisor. Ability to utilize a wide latitude of independent judgement that benefits the Organization and it’s internal stakeholders,
  • Other tasks and projects, as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and Director, Finance.


Education:

A bachelor’s degree in a Scientific Field (biology, chemistry, etc), Finance, Business, or a similarly related discipline.


Experience:

  • 5+ Years of similar experience is preferred; however, lower levels of experience will be considered depending on the level and applicable nature of the experience.
  • Previous bench scientists with an interest/background in managing procurement processes may be considered for the role, depending on previous experience coordinating with administrative teams on Procurement.

  • Analytical Skills – Ability to review purchasing trends, vendor performance, and budget utilization,
  • Attention to Detail – Ability to differentiate between highly specialized biomedical materials,
  • Negotiation Skills – Ability to secure favorable terms, pricing, and conditions,
  • Safety Knowledge – Ability to adhere to safety compliance, including use of PPE, proper lifting techniques, and adherence to safety protocols and SDS sheets when handling hazardous materials,
  • Communication Skills – Ability to manage communication with internal and external stakeholders,
  • Problem solving skills – Shows adaptability and the capacity to address challenges as they arise.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move equipment, supplies, and materials up to 35 pounds,
  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, kneel for extended periods of time, depending on tasks,
  • Ability to work in the following environments for extended periods of time: General Administrative Office, Loading/Receiving Dock, Facility/Maintenance Rooms, Laboratory Environments, Other similar areas, as needed.
