Our R&D department develops the formulations used for insect pest & disease management and plant health care on a broad range of plant host species including trees, shrubs, vines and turf grasses. As part of the development process, we test new products for their effectiveness in our own indoor greenhouses, outdoor nurseries and at third party collaborator sites around the country. 


Job Description

This position requires a unique blend of scientific expertise and practical understanding of soil-plant interactions. We are seeking a motivated and results-oriented individual to join our team as a Soil Chemist and Agronomist. You will play a critical role in assessing soil health, testing and evaluating new products, and developing sustainable management practices for various purposes.


Responsibilities:

·        Soil and Land Use:

o  Conduct research and field studies to evaluate new products, and investigate responses to different management practices.

o  Analyze soil samples for chemical and microbial composition, including relationships to plant growth and productivity.

o  Offer expert advice on land use management for both rural and urban environments.

·        Research and Development:

o  Design and implement research programs to evaluate the impact of fertilizers, soil amendments, crop protection chemicals and biologicals on soil health and crop yields.

o  Conduct experiments in grow rooms, green houses, outdoors or research stations to identify optimal product-soil-plant combinations.

o  Secure funding and manage research trials, adhering to company protocols and budget allocations.

o  Collaborate with academic stakeholders to identify and conduct impactful research projects.

·        Practical Applications:

o  Guide growers on efficient crop production strategies based on accurate soil analyses, product knowledge and knowledge of relevant regulations.

o  Collect and analyze data from field trials.

o  Diagnose and address weed, insect, disease, and nutrient deficiencies in customer fields.

o  Ensure optimal timing for planting/seeding, fertilization, and pesticide application based on weather conditions.

·        Prepare insightful progress reports and analyze crop claim issues as needed.

·        Document field evaluations of chemicals, biologicals, and fertilizers.

·        Train sales and marketing staff on agronomic principles.

·        Assist with budgeting and cost monitoring for agronomic activities.

·        Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, applicators, and agronomy laboratories.

·        Stay current on advancements in crop nutrition and protection technologies.


Qualifications:

·        Bachelor's degree in crop science, soil science, or a related field (horticulture, plant physiology, environmental science).

·        Master's or doctorate degree preferred for research-intensive positions and leadership roles.

·        Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.

·        Experience in conducting field studies and laboratory analyses.

·        Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

·        Proficient in data analysis and report writing.

·        Working knowledge of agricultural practices and crop nutrition.

·        Ability to travel for field work and research collaborations.
