Microsoft D365

Lisle, United States RSM Solutions, Inc Full time

Thank you for stopping by to take a look at the Microsoft D365 / eCommerce Architect role I posted here on LinkedIN, I appreciate it. If you have seen my JD's in the past, welcome back. If you are new to my Job Descriptions, welcome to the party. I realized, a long time ago, that looking for work is about as fun as a root canal...so, if you see something in here that makes you chuckle, that was the intent. If I can make the job hunting process at least less taxing, I will gladly do it.

As with most of the roles I work on, social fit is just as important as the technical fit. So, for these guys, some of those social fit characteristics are:

  • I have worked with this particular hiring manager for the last 4 years or so....so, I know her well. She is the furthest thing from a micro-manager. There is an expectation that you know what you are doing and really want to do your best work. That's the thing...there is limited micro-management because you don't need to be micro-managed.
  • You might have seen this comment in other JD's I have written...so, here goes. This not an ego-centric environment or ones with egos the size of a planet. So, if you are the kind of person that believes your opinion is the only one that counts, you should probably go back to being an Instagram influencer, because you probably won't be a fit here.

This role is being done in a hybrid manner in Lisle, Illinois. We are seeking individuals that are already within driving distance to Lisle. You can relocate to the area, but there are no relocation dollars available for this role.

Sometimes, people will immediately ask 'how many days onsite?'. If that is your major concern, we won't have a fit for this role. There will be some weeks where it will be 3, some with more, some with less. Here is what I am getting at (this goes to the lack of micro-management). The hiring manager is going to treat you like an adult. An adult can determine when it is best to be onsite and when you can be remote.

Here is what we are seeking in this role. We are seeking something of a hybrid of Microsoft D365 / eCommerce integration architect. They have customized D365 that has API's that connect to their eCommerce platform (vNode). Here are some thoughts in terms of the fun things you will be doing in the first 90 days. You will be documenting the current state of the environment, suggest next steps, and identify technical debt that needs to be addressed (well, technical debt that hasn't been addressed already), and scope 1-2 future projects. There is documentation that already exists, but their current eCommerce platform is the 'center of the universe' and they would rather move away from this being the center of everything...they would rather have D365 and eCommerce flow with one another. From a more 'functional' side of this role, you will be working with AR, for example, on requirements for paying invoices online, establishing solid working relationships with internal & external teams, and working with external vendors as responsibilities from those vendors gradually move back in house. The move from external vendors to more work in-house is one of the main purposes for this role.

From the architectural side of this role, we are seeking someone that has, perhaps, grown up in the dev world (.net, for example), and then grew into the world of app architecture. This role combines integrations & APIs (you will be developing the APIs) along with understanding the current strengths and weaknesses of their current architecture, and understanding how tech will ebb & flow in the future (and how to adapt to those changes). Also, from a tech standpoint, you should have at least a little D365 development experience as well. However, that D365 experience will really focus on D365 API development.

If you have getting close to a role like this as your career has progressed, but haven't achieved that 'App Architect' role, that will be fine as well. I know we are asking a lot from this role...so, no one person is going to be a 100% knock-it-out-of-the-park fit.

Here are some of the key responsibilities (rather than bore you to tears with 1,000 bullet points, I will focus on the real 'meat'):

  • Own the technical direction and evolution of internal APIs (such as eCommerce and ERP for sales orders, inventory, and customer information) and how the company uses external/3rd Party APIs (such as tax and shipping calculations).
  • Manage their implementation of API collection and Digital platforms; maintain best practices in the operation and maintenance such as feature/release updates, maintenance windows, system stability & performance, etc.
  • Maintain deep familiarity with the e-Commerce platform's features, functionality, configurations, data structures and associated integrations.

Here are the requirements:

  • At least 10 years of app development (this can be .net, or X++).
  • At least 5 years of application architecture experience (this should include ERP & eCommerce architecture).
  • Any experience with eCommerce platforms like zNode, Magento, Shopify, etc...
  • At least 5 years of RESTful API development
