The Senior Mechanical Engineer is an individual contributor responsible for the mechanical design and analysis of assigned deliverables for CB&I projects including specific complex deliverables for process equipment such as pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, and rotating equipment. Responsibilities may include: Managing projects/processes, working independently with limited supervision. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex. Work includes, among other things, conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, design calculations, specification development and supervising vendor packages for equipment and mechanical systems. The role reports to the Department Manager and routinely interacts with other Mechanical Engineers, Project Engineers, engineers from other disciplines, Supply Chain, and Project Management.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering calculations to support design work
  • Mechanical engineering for the requisitioning of process equipment, including sizing calculations and development of data sheets and specifications
  • Requisitioning of all types of process equipment, including, but not limited to, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, fired heaters, pressure vessels, and complicated equipment packages
  • Review of equipment supplier proposals and preparation of technical bid evaluations
  • Review of supplier drawings and specifications, and coordinating/consolidating the review by other engineering disciplines, such as piping, electrical, instrumentation, etc.
  • Mentoring of junior mechanical engineers, and depending on size and complexity of project scope, may be assigned as the Mechanical Engineering Lead for a project
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with vendors and contractors
  • Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design process
  • Ensure project timeline is met and project stays within budget
  • Maintain and promote a focus on CB&I’s product whether engineering, fabrication or construction.


Essential Qualifications and Education:


  • 10+ Yrs - Company/Industry
  • 5-10 Yrs – Discipline
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or in a related field from an accredited school is required.
  • Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, API, ASTM, TEMA, and NFPA standards
  • Relevant experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) projects such as refineries or petrochemical plants is highly desirable. Experience with low temperature and cryogenic applications is a plus.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) or working toward obtaining EIT, and then a professional engineering license is preferred.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using document markup software such as Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, or similar
