The Analytical Scientist position is a highly technical role focused on developing and validating new analytical methods, often with minimal supervision. The scientist will support various corporate functions, including Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), and International Business. Key responsibilities include performing QC testing and data review to ensure the timely release of products, developing scientifically sound analytical methods, and ensuring their proper application to raw materials, finished products, and stability studies.
Proficiency in using laboratory software such as Empower for chromatographic and spectroscopic methods, as well as wet chemistry techniques, is essential. The scientist will also evaluate testing methodologies, assess results from contract laboratories, and ensure compliance with agreed-upon methods and parameters.
This role demands a deep understanding of laboratory instrumentation, including FTIR, HPLC, ICP, GC, UV-Vis, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and HPTLC, as well as expertise in the characterization and structural elucidation of botanical compounds using spectroscopic methods and mass spectrometry. Additionally, the scientist will be responsible for proper hazardous waste management according to RCRA and SCDHEC regulations.
The role requires a solid foundation in statistical techniques for data trend analysis and design of experiments, as well as experience in adhering to pharmaceutical or nutritional supplement industry regulations (FDA, ICH, GMP/GLP). The scientist will also mentor and train chemists, ensuring they execute and interpret validation studies correctly.
Educationally, a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of experience or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields is preferred. The role requires hands-on work at the bench alongside the Analytical Chemistry team, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
