Northern Trust Wealth Management is in need of a Sr Lead full stack engineer for the Trust & Investment Platform Technical Implementation. This lead will play a key role in the modernization of the Wealth Management Trust & Investment Advisor Platform to meet business-defined outcomes. The WM Trust & Investment Platform will be a suite of tools and capabilities utilized by WM front office advisors in management of high net worth client portfolios, with ~275 billion in platform AUM that accounts for ~60% of WM revenue.

WHO YOU ARE

As a Sr Lead Full Stack engineer , you are responsible for implementation of the design and product vision into a reality. You dedicate time to stay on top of the fast changing tech space and invest a lot of energy in learning new skills. You are caught up on industry trends in engineering, frameworks, DevSecOps, serverless computing/architecture and cloud technologies along with building skills to anticipate what the near future will bring. You love clean interfaces and have a real passion for extraordinary user experience. You have exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or within a team. Furthermore you have;

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or higher, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 8+ years development experience using Java, Springboot, SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Prior experience with one or more vended portfolio management systems centered around an investment book of record is a plus
  • Extensive prior experience with vendor solutions evaluations
  • Prior experience with modern messaging platforms
  • Extensive experience implementing solutions which leverage data warehouses
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture and development patterns and best practices
  • 3+ years of experience designing and building cloud-native applications, microservices preferably using Azure or AWS
  • Strong experience deploying and hosting applications in containers and Kubernetes
  • Experience in Single Page Applications using React/Redux
  • Strong Experience in Software Delivery following Agile practices and Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry, Wealth Management preferred
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs and how to use them in practice.
  • Strong Experience with continuous integration and collaboration tools like Azure DevOps, JIRA, Bitbucket, GitHub and Confluence.
  • Strong Experience with unit testing and test automation tools and frameworks like JUnit, Jasmine, Jest etc.
  • Familiarity with Native Azure security solutions (Azure Security Center) big plus
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management technologies and integration with Azure big plus
  • Knowledge of application security and secure software development practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to author and present materials ranging from detailed technical specifications to high-level presentations.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills; able to quickly digest any issue/problem encountered and recommend an appropriate solution

  • Be a part of a growing team, which is focused heavily on building a modernized Trust & Investment Advisor Platform for the Wealth Management business unit.
  • Work closely with other developers to design and develop functional, performing and complete features, systems and APIs
  • Constantly looks for better ways of solving technical problems and designing the solution by not being afraid of challenging the status quo
  • Identify appropriate technical solutions that provide business value while mitigating technical debt
  • Participate in and assist with perform vendor evaluations and selection processes for the tool sets that will be the heart of the new WM Trust & Investment Platform
  • Performing vendor implementation and integration
  • Participate in R&D and POC's before active development for any key features where solutions need to be created.
  • Enable the development organization by creating working examples
  • Liaise with the Wealth Lead Architecture Groups
  • Solve problems collaboratively
  • Work with other developers on the team, specifically with design and code reviews
  • Decipher existing software systems and platforms and hook in applications to applicable data sources
  • Write both unit and integration tests and develop automation tools for daily tasks
