SCI is seeking a Staff Geologist to join our Geotechnical Services group in San Antonio, Texas. You will have the opportunity to apply your geologic skills to projects involving heaving soils, karst features, underground mines; construction management; environmental compliance; and forensic investigations, while developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Project planning and coordination including subcontractor procurement, sampling and health and safety plan development, project management support with client and regulatory interfacing;
- Utility clearance coordination with one call (811) and private utility locators, clients, and contractors;
- Data gathering for CPT and various geophysics testing activities;
- Field work, site investigation and characterization, including sediment, soil, surface water, and groundwater sampling;
- Logging of soil borings and drilling contractor oversight;
- Data analysis/visualization of site investigation data including the preparation of tables, maps, and figures using both industry-standard and cutting-edge applications;
- Monitoring and oversight of construction projects including deep foundations, ground improvement installation, load testing, and retaining wall construction;
- Preparation of written documents such as proposals, workplans, cost estimates and investigative reports; and
- Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities such as presentations and conference attendance.
- Experience with classification of soils and bedrock (required)
- Experience with logging of geotechnical drilling operations (required)
- Experience AutoCAD or ArcGIS (preferred)
- Strong oral and technical writing skills (required)
- Valid U.S. Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record for business travel (required)
- Bachelors degree in Geology (required)
- Advanced degree in Geology (preferred)
- Holds professional licensure or has ability to obtain professional licensure (P.G.) within four years (required)
- Training: this position requires 40-hour OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
