Job Description Summary

:Employee will directs the delivery of nursing care, treatments, and services in Nursing Departments as well as other assigned departments.

Under the direction of the CEO, the Nurse Executive functions at the senior leadership level to provide effective leadership and to coordinate leaders to deliver care, treatments, and services.

The Nurse Executive has the authority to speak on behalf of their assigned departments to the same extent of other hospital leaders.

This employee is responsible twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.

Employee is subject to call back as required by the hospital.

Responsibilities

Assumes an active leadership role with the hospital advisory body, medical staff, and other management staff and departments within the hospital. Communicates with the CEO or other corporate leaders in established meetings for the purpose of discussing nursing care policies, management needs, patient and staff needs, as well as future planning and departmental goals. Investigates causes of grievances and complaints of patients, physicians, visitors, employees and reporting to the CEO or appropriate person. Proactively manages patients at risk for HAIs through clinical rounding as appropriate. Coordinates investigations of significant clusters of infections above expected levels and presents these findings to the hospital epidemiologist. Works collaboratively with other health professionals and other departments, serving as a resource person on Infection Prevention and Control for the hospital. Consults and advises with ICPs at WTH and other affiliate hospitals. Analyzes statistical data for reports. Reports data to hospital epidemiologist and appropriate committees. Collaborates with the Quality Outcomes Department and the Patient Safety Officer on quality improvement programs to improve organizational performance. Monitors the isolation of infectious diseases through communication with the Medical and/or Nursing staff. Compiles data relative to appropriate antibiotic usage through surveillance activities. Directs the notification of appropriate outside agencies of any pertinent findings of communicable disease.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: BSN required Masters degree or enrollment in Masters Program required. Attends Basic Training for Activity Coordinator

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Current RN licensure as approved for practice in the State of Tennessee. BLS, and ACLS certification required.

EXPERIENCE: Proficiency in current practices and techniques in specific area of clinical expertise as acquired through 5-10 years clinical experience, preferred. Previous management and supervisory experience preferred.
