We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees.

Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the "Gateway to the Delta" and is one of California's oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000.

The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate's training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

Job Description / Essential Elements:

ANTIOCH UNFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

CLASS TITLE: PROGRAM SPECIALIST

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director- Special Education, or designee serve as a knowledgeable professional in the Individual education Program (IEP) planning process. Observe and consult with and assist resources specialists, designated instruction and services instructors, and special class teachers. Plan programs, coordinate curricular resources, and evaluate effectiveness of programs for individuals with exceptional needs. Participate in each school's staff development, program development, and innovation of special methods and approaches. Provide coordination, consultation and program development primarily in at least one specialized area or areas of expertise.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

•Develop and conduct trainings of school staff and parents regarding special education law, policies, and procedures, as well as in the implementation of K-12 curriculum for students with special needs.

•Provide training and consultation in the adaptation or modification of appropriate curriculum.

•Plan and organize the placement, review, and discharge of exceptional students living in the Antioch attendance area whose needs cannot be met in the regular classroom setting.

•Assist in development of innovative and effective programs.

•Provide assistance to the special education teaching staff in planning, organizing coordinating staff functions, facilities, materials, and equipment purchase and use

•Assist site and district level administrators in supporting, training and coaching certificated and classified personnel within the specified program areas.

•Develop and/or coordinate the alignment and articulation of core curriculum and services between District, SELPA, County special education programs, and non-public schools/agencies.

•Develop and /or coordinate the alignment and articulation of a planned curriculum for extended school year.

•Assist as chairperson of member or an Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team as directed by Special Education administrators.

•Assist in the coordination of development, selection, and/or procurement of curriculum materials, equipment and training for community-based instruction and transition services.

•Makes recommendations relative to the selection of new staff and placement of special education personnel.

•Develop, implement and revise behavior programs for identified students in accordance with best practice methodologies and procedures; provide ongoing monitoring of behavior programs, including individuals and group instruction.

•Develop data collection systems, monitor data collection and provide programmatic recommendations based upon results.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree
A minimum of three successful years (five years preferred) experience in pupil services or certificated teaching experience in an educational setting
Successful experience supporting special education services
Advanced trainings and related experience in the education of individuals with exceptional needs
Experience and training in a variety of curriculum, instruction, classroom management and intervention techniques
Training or experience in conflict resolution and group facilitation

LICNESES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license
Valid Special Education Credential, Clinical Services Credential or Pupil Services Credential
