Associate Accountant

Department: Finance Department
Job Purpose
This full-time role is funded by grants and will be terminated once the grants are depleted or after three years, whichever comes first. To apply, candidates must submit a D.M.V. printout along with their application.
- Performing professional accounting and auditing tasks in various municipal accounting areas.
- Reviewing accounting documents for accuracy and making necessary corrections.
- Preparing financial statements, general ledgers, and reports for regulatory bodies.
- Supervising accounting section programs and personnel.
- Conducting bank reconciliations and preparing debt service payments.
- Participating in the selection and supervision of accounting personnel.
- Reviewing and recommending modifications to accounting practices.
- Attending meetings and representing the City as needed.
- Serving on committees and boards within the City and community.
- Acting as the primary backup for the Senior Accountant.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, along with 2-3 years of professional accounting experience. Supervisory experience is preferred, and possession of a valid California Driver License is required.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 2-3 years of professional accounting experience.
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
- Possession of a valid California Driver License.
- Bondable.
The selected candidates will receive a 3% wage increase in FY 24/25. Other benefits include Certification Pay, Tuition Reimbursement, Longevity Pay, Shift Differential, Uniform Allowance, Paid Holidays, Sick and Vacation Leave, and Employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and life benefits.
Life insurance coverage is offered based on the annual base salary, with City Pension plans available for both Classic and PEPRA New Members.
