Overview:
Under the supervision and/or direction of a Registered Nurse, performs various duties assisting nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established nursing standards.
Responsibilities:
Recognizes the Patient Care Tech role as it relates to the overall function of the Emergency Department, patient care, customer service and the business of healthcare Problem Solving/Performance Improvement.
Obtains EKGs of high quality, free of base-line drift, muscle tremor, A-C interface artifact, being well alert of poor quality tracings and knowing when to abort unacceptable tracings.
Phlebotomy technique, competence in venipuncture, micro collection, blood cultures, Blood Bank specimens. Ensures positive patient identification. Perform and report point-of-care monitor glucoses on all patient types.Conscious of biohazard safety as it relates to the job; use of the pneumatic tube system, manual delivery of specimens to main lab, disposal of blood collection equipment, changing of gloves between patients Patient Rounds.
Qualifications:
One year experience preferred as a unit administrative, Nursing Assistant, or Phlebotomist.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
