The Independent School District of West Burlington is seeking a Health Occupations Teacher for our shared Health Occupation Career pathway for the school year. This teaching position works within the West Burlington Independent but is a shared teaching position with the Mediapolis Community School District. This individual will provide instruction, supervision, and skills training for high school health occupations students preparing for potential careers in the health/medical field. The person holding this position follows the West Burlington academic calendar. Pay corresponds to the certified salary schedule and benefits plan for the West Burlington School District Salary Schedule. EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
    - A nurse is an individual who is licensed by the Iowa Board of Nursing, and holds the title of Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Teaching credential/certificate/license is preferred for the ability to obtain an Initial Career & Technical Authorization.
  • Additional coursework may be necessary to obtain Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification over the course of the first several years of employment. District is willing to cover the cost of course work in lieu of a certain number of years of employment.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

2. Ability to relate effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community.

3. Ability to organize varied tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner.

4. Ability to handle diversity in an objective manner.

5. Ability to use computer software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below are the essential tasks required for this job.

Career and Technical Education Teacher

Teachers are responsible for supervising students, implementation of the District curriculum and assessment plan, planning and providing instruction, and utilizing resources accordingly. Input and collaboration toward these efforts is critical as well as communicating with parents, patrons, and other stakeholders to advance the District vision, mission, and goals.
  • Plan and provide instruction that cognitively engages all students, increases critical thinking and problem solving skills, and assess learning to guide instruction.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners. This includes tiered instructional support as it relates to remediation, enrichment, and social emotional learning.
  • Build and maintain secure relationships with students as well as maintaining professional relationships with colleagues, parents, and patrons.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with timelines including individual student records, classroom records, content area reports, grade level reports, and building/department records.
  • Actively engage as a member of a team including but not limited to, student teams, grade level or department teams, focus groups, curriculum teams, PLCs, and/or other building and District teams.
  • Other duties as directed by the supervisor.
OTHER DUTIES (duties which the incumbent can be expected to perform)
  • Attend building events such as open houses, curriculum night, informational meetings, and events designed to bring the public into the District.
  • Occasional or sporadic duties such as taking tickets at an event, participating on an interview committee, covering a duty of a colleague, engaging in curriculum and/or instructional resource committees, attending staff meetings and/or student meetings such as IEPs, etc.
  • Participate in professional development activities and/or curriculum work outside of the typical school
