Director of Programming and Strategic Partnerships

Reports to: Executive Director
Summary / objective: Implements and administers one or more programs for the organization. Executes programs that meet the needs of the organization's target population and that are in alignment with the organization's stated mission. Supervises the work of program staff to ensure the quality of service provided. Assists in the development of customized solutions to individual client needs. Participates in program evaluation by collecting and analyzing data in support of key performance metrics. Ensures that all services provided are in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Essential functions / Job Duties:


  • Responsible for the overall management of existing programs and the design and implementation of new programs/initiatives.
  • Responsible for developing a comprehensive program strategy that successfully marries the Conservancy's vision and fundraising priorities.
  • Engages with a cross section of potential international partners, including universities, philanthropists and Embassies.
  • Responsible for shaping the Conservancy's vision into a strong and succinct programmatic voice that supports the Park's long term strategic planning, programmatic and fundraising goals.
  • Responsible for creating program content, including, but not limited to program research and design, partner details, budgets, implementation plans, benchmarking, reporting and tracking metrics.
  • Collaborates with the communication and fundraising teams to create print, audio, visual and digital marketing and branding material around Conservancy programming.
  • Collaborates with federal, state and local government, corporations, foundations, faith-based organizations, non-profits, as well as 3rd Ward community partners to identify intersecting points of interest and collaboration that tie into the Conservancy's mission.
  • Identifies, coordinates and collaborates on programs with ethnically diverse communities historically tied to the Houston region. This includes, but is not limited to academic institutions, community groups, faith-based organizations and non-profits.
  • Ensures project reporting is current and projects are progressing within an agreed upon scope, timeline and budget.
  • Identifies needs, gaps, challenges and priority actions with partners and develop strategic frameworks for implementing projects for future funding and development. Candidate will nurture project ideas from conception through impact reporting.
  • Facilitates meetings, trainings, networking and communications to support and carry out the mission of the Conservancy.
  • Coordinates and/or participate in appropriate collaborative planning processes and working groups. In addition to providing technical assistance to partner organizations when needed.
  • Manages collaborations between the Conservancy and Houston Parks and Recreation in carrying out project planning, development and implementation; as well as providing liaison support to the Executive Director as needed.
  • Ensures that projects and programs follow partner protocols.

Supervisory responsibilities:
1- 2 direct reports, including Community Engagement Specialist
Position type and expected hours of work: Full-time (40+ hours per week)
Required education and experience: Bachelor's degree with 6 or more years of experience in program management and/or program development. Comprehensive knowledge of the field's concepts and principles. Performs complex tasks typically following established processes. Leads and directs the work of other employees and has full authority for personnel decisions. Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change. Typically requires a bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of experience.
