Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is seeking a Health Physicist in Mission Support RadCon. They will provide support for ensuring radiological compliance in accordance with all applicable government and industry standards, rules, and regulations pertaining to nuclear radiation.

May serve as Facility Point of Contact (FPOC) for Radiological Work Planning and other health physics specialties. Develop, prepare, review, and/or approve work planning documents, technical basis documents and participates in Process Hazards Review Analysis (PHRA), and ALARA design reviews.

Support field exercises, review work procedures/practices, conduct field surveillances, perform assessments, and assist in training of health physics technicians (HPTs).

Working independently, develops and leads implementation of radiological control programs and activities that fall under the responsibility of a Health Physicist/Radiological Work Planner.

Under administrative direction, provides advanced and wide-ranging technical, operational, and regulatory guidance on company's Radiological Protection issues.

Performs Mission Support radiological work planning and Facility Technical Point of Contact (FPOC) duties, leadership, and independent oversight to assure compliance with regulatory, contractual and company level requirements. Performs assessments, calculations, and/or monitoring to determine the proper radiological controls and shielding required to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards, while considering the economic impacts as based on procedures.

Applies sophisticated procedural radiological engineering and health physics principles for multiple new, complex facilities/projects in scope.

Ensures sound radiation protection practices are accomplished through incorporation of program requirements and ALARA throughout technical work documents. Provides a leadership function within radiological work planning and assures implementation of sound and compliant radiological control technical work documents along with distribution of upcoming package development.

Updates and maintains the Radiological Control Program within the assigned area of responsibility and provides Health Physicist leadership to those preparing documents and procedures implementing these requirements.

Contributes to development of new concepts, techniques, and standards. Considered expert in field within the organization.

Follows WRPS procedures, policies, processes and expectations including those related to industrial and radiological safety, quality, conduct of operations, and environmental compliance.

Provides complete/accurate information and timely meets internal and external commitments, including those related to corrective actions.

May temporarily fill in for HP Supervisor during absences.

This position requires an in-depth knowledge of Hanford operating practices, Radiological Control practices and requirements, safety procedures, and work management policies as they apply to radiological work planning.

This position requires a high skill ability to problem solve and incorporate sound ALARA practices into radiological work planning activities. Field operations can be highly complex when all of the requirements are integrated into procedures, requirements, and work documents.

Required Qualifications

Grade 18:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in related field and 7 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Documented and verifiable training in Rad Protection is required.

Grade 19:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in related field and 9 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Documented and verifiable training in Rad Protection is required.

Grade 20:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in related field and 10 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Documented and verifiable training in Rad Protection is required.

Desired Qualifications

National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) or Certified Health Physicist (CHP) preferred.

Grade 18:

Hiring Range Minimum: $104,175

Hiring Range Maximum: $131,425

Grade 19:

Hiring Range Minimum: $114,475

Hiring Range Maximum: $144,325

Grade 20:

Hiring Range Minimum: $126,025
