Position Summary: The Lead Software Engineer works with limited or no direct supervision. The position serves in a supervisor capacity to the Software department approving time off, conducting performance appraisals, handling performance issues, and generally facilitating the team concept. Responsible for organizing, planning and follow-up of complex activities for engineered projects to meet or exceed management and customer expectations. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors and summarizes progress of project. The Lead Software Engineer will work together with their supervisor, other department leads and others on the Software team to create, update and improve upon best practices and department processes/procedures.



Primary Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for day-to-day management of Lincoln's software engineering group
  • Lead and manage the software group to always be on time and under budget
  • Lead Software Standardization / Best Practices to deliver high quality, robust and easy to use software products
  • Develop the vision for the Lincoln Electric software products together with Staff and the software group. Lead continuous efforts to achieve this vision
  • Proactively identify problems, system architecture definition, hardware and software specification and design, and recommend implementation, testing, solution deployment, revision control and documentation
  • Lead the performance management of the software department
  • Lead the recruitment and development of software talent
  • Identify areas for modification and improvement in existing programs and subsequently develop and document those modifications
  • Assist in the development and testing of new and existing software products
  • Coaching and constant development of the software engineers and their competence
  • Lead training efforts to ensure that everyone in the company understands and can support our software products
  • Adhere to Lincoln software standards and procedures
  • Participate in the quoting and concepting of the software component for new projects

Qualifications Required:

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer / Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or related experience
  • Ability to develop and document procedures
  • Experience with ABB and Fanuc robot platforms and their programming languages (RAPID, TP, KAREL, etc.)
  • Industrial robotics domain knowledge (welding, cutting, other fabrication processes)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Previous experience leading teams of engineers
  • Good communication and organizational skills required
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed; travel is occasional
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures necessary to build software products
  • Position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals on a variety of tasks

Qualifications Desired:

  • Five years' experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Competency in user interface design
  • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS)
  • Basic understanding of robot kinematics and trajectory planning
  • Familiarity with Robotic automation safety
  • Laser Safety knowledge

  • Work environment: Normal office environment and work on the manufacturing floor. While performing the duties of the position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme heat, and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel is minimal.
