Job Description: OB SUMMARY:

  • \t
  • Perform the daily activities as described below.\t
  • Basic Purpose: Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff and to facilitate production.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • \t
  • Sorting, and receiving specimens in the department.\t
  • Performs routine instrument maintenance on some equipment.\t
  • Performs laboratory tasks of centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts) specimen storage and retrieval.\t
  • Preparing reagents and or media in the department.\t
  • Preparing specimens at workstations for testing. (Including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking specimens for clots and fibrin, inoculation, slide preparation)\t
  • Performs QA/QC duties as assigned.\t
  • Resolves pending lists.\t
  • Finds missing samples.\t
  • Decontaminates work areas.\t
  • Performs weekly radioactive wipe tests.\t
  • Maintains files for department records.\t
  • Changes gas cylinders.\t
  • Follows all PPE requirements and all safety regulations.\t
  • Uses the laboratory computer system as well as operates PCs.\t
  • Disposes of biohazardous material.\t
  • Completes training and competency checklists as appropriate.\t

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Medical assistant training helpful. Math and science courses preferred.
