Overview

Performs the clinical duties of a Psychologist while managing other Psychologist personnel. Provides leadership in clinical, research, educational, consultative and legislative arenas in accordance with the mission and vision of the Department and D-H.

Responsibilities

Ensures the clinical competence of the assigned staff to meet current standards of care.

In collaboration with Section Chief/Medical Director manages professional and patient care issues with individual staff members.

Leads staff in collaborative practice with Section Chief/Medical Director, Attending physicians and all other members of the inter-professional care team.

Ensures licensing, certification, credentials and privileges are maintained and meet current standard of practice.

In collaboration with Section Chief/Medical Director, assumes accountability for staffing justification, performance evaluations and all hiring and termination actions with regard to assigned staff.

Participates in the recruitment of new Psychologist staff by establishing search committees and facilitates the screening/hiring of applicants.

Ensures staff compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Participates in Section/Department meetings and other leadership meetings related to the roles of assigned staff.

Works directly with Section Chief/Medical Director, Department Administrative Director and/or Practice Manager in planning and reviewing budget related to assigned staff. May include, but is not limited to, review of billing practices, salaries, operating expenses and productivity.

Monitor and modify staffing patterns to ensure appropriate clinical coverage.

Develops and supports clinical, research, quality improvement and educational activities of the assigned staff and mentor individuals in the achievement of their professional goals.

Performs evaluation/assessment of

personal characteristics, including but not limited to abilities, aptitudes, intelligence, interests, motivations, neuropsychological functioning and personality;

psychological aspects of physical illnesses, accidents, injuries, or disabilities;

substance abuse/dependencies.

Observes, describes, diagnoses, evaluates, treats, consults, interprets and modifies human behavior by applying psychological principles, methods, or procedures to patients above the age of 17 who suffer from mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders or disabilities.

Utilizes major types of psychotherapy including, behavior therapy, cognitive therapy, crisis intervention, family/couples, group, individual, long-term, marital medications and psychotherapy, concurrent use, psychodynamic, short-term and supportive.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

PhD or PsyD. Completion of an approved professional doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, including an internship meeting APPIC standards;

Completion of a doctoral degree from an APA- or CPA-accredited program, including an APA- or CPA-accredited internship;

Must be able to demonstrate that he or she has provided psychological services, on an inpatient, outpatient, or consultative basis in the past 12 months.
