**Description**

**PURPOSE STATEMENT:**

Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all people in and around the facilitys swimming pool.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors in and around the pool.

Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies.

Administer first aid and CPR, including using an AED and if trained, administer emergency oxygen when needed.

Rescue distressed swimmers when necessary.

Enforce the pool rules in an appropriate, fair and equitable manner and explain the rationale for the rule(s) when needed.

Assist people as needed, but without compromising the safety of others using the facility.

May perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe pool.

Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.

**OTHER FUNCTIONS:**

Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:**

High school diploma or equivalent required.

One or more years previous lifeguard experience required.

**LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:**

Must have Lifeguard Certification from an accredited organization.

CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).

First aid may be required based on state or facility.
