Camp Wildcraft Art and Nature Summer Day Camp is seeking a vibrant, fun and caring educator who has experience working with children ages 4 and 5 years old.

The Camp Wildcraft mission is to grow creative, curious, confident and caring kids who feel at home in nature. _We believe summer camp is the perfect opportunity to build kids' social emotional skills, to grow a deeper understanding of, and connection to nature, and to use the arts as a way to engage creatively with the world.
Our Wildcraft Guide + Early Childhood Specialist is part of our team of Wildcraft Guides (AKA Counselors)
- facilitating and assisting with the camp arts curriculum, daily hikes and activities.
IN ADDITIONthey are focused on our youngest 4 and 5 year old campers, known as our "Acorns" during all the activities within our camp day.

Our ideal Early Childhood Coordinator
-
Has at least two years experience working with children ages 4 and 5: Easily and warmly connects with kids; genuinely like being with young children, is empathetic and patient, has a sense of humor, and can be authentic and real with kids
- as well as silly and fun.

Has experience and interest in creating and leading activities for 4 and 5 year olds. Camp Wildcraft is unique in that many activities include mixed aged kids. In the afternoons we have "choice activities." During this time we will have special activities for the Acorns. Our EC Specialist will be responsible for developing these activities and programs with guidance from the camp directors.

Has completed some learning in early childhood education:We expect our Early Childhood Specialist to know about the developmental needs of young children and to incorporate this knowledge in their interactions and activities. Camp Wildcraft is committed to supporting the social emotional needs of all our campers.

Likes to make things: As an art and nature camp, campers of all ages work on our weekly, thematic mixed-media art projects, led by our camp directors with support from our team. Our Guides learn new art-making techniques, thrive in an experimental and improvisational environment and are passionate about guiding and encouraging kids on their creative journey.

Love being out in nature: Are able to keep the energy upbeat on hikes, find wonder in the natural world and love to share this with children. Our Early Childhood staff focus on our Acorns during the hikes and nature activities.

Are fun, flexible, open minded and creative. You have a sense of humor, and can easily adapt to changing plans. You have a natural curiosity and can make even ordinary moments EXTRAordinary.

Are flexible and hardworking team players:Can work closely and collaboratively with a small team, take initiative, communicate well, are self-directed and see each summer at Camp Wildcraft as an opportunity to learn together, work hard, build community, and have each other's back.

Are growth minded:Our summer staff are trained to build on, and harness their own strengths and experiences to build a warm, inclusive and inspiring community where we feel a greater connection to each otherand the natural world.

Are responsible, self-directed and safety-minded. You are eagle-eyed to keep kids safe, and can stay calm when there are challenges. You are able to take initiative and resolve conflicts when needed. All Guides need to be certified in CPR and first aid and will be provided with an online course prior to the start of camp.

Are available, committed and reliable:Camp runs 8 weeks: June 17th to August 9th. There is a mandatory paid staff training June 9 and 10th at our Calabasas site and June 15th at our Malibu site. Camp hours are 8:00am - 4:00pm Monday
  • Friday.
