Sign-On Bonus Details:

- Sign-on bonus of $7,500 for LPNs with one or more years of experience

- $5,000 sign-on bonus for new LPN graduates

Candidates hired for sign-on bonus eligible roles will be required to commit to a two-year work term.

Responsibilities:

  • The LPN functions as part of the healthcare team by employing sound nursing judgment, based on knowledge, training, and experience. They assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care through focused assessments in various healthcare settings. The LPN communicates with licensed professional nurses and the patient's healthcare team for guidance when necessary.
  • The LPN should seek instruction and supervision when carrying out new or unfamiliar nursing practices. They must adhere to established UPMC policies, LPN Practice Guidelines, and State Practice Act. The LPN works within guidelines, including IVs, and adopts a Relationship Based Care approach to create a healing environment. They set daily goals and care plans for patients, involving them in the process and considering individual needs holistically. Comprehensive patient documentation is vital for promoting communication among caregivers.
  • Additionally, the LPN follows national professional organization, business unit, and health system goals to enhance patient safety and satisfaction. They focus on creating a compassionate patient-centered experience, building supportive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. The LPN actively engages in unit activities, providing assistance to the care team. They offer detailed teaching to patients and families, guiding them through care episodes and transitions effectively. The LPN also plays a role in supporting the orientation and development of new LPNs and patient care staff. Seeking feedback for professional improvement, participating in learning programs, and identifying opportunities for enhancing quality and workplace practices are key aspects of the role.
  • Furthermore, the LPN collaborates with the healthcare team, patients, and families to achieve optimal patient outcomes. They maintain positive working relationships internally and externally, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment. The LPN respects cultural differences and promotes healthy peer relationships. Balancing work and personal life, adhering to safe work practices, and communicating safety hazards are integral to the role.
  • Other responsibilities include meeting system-wide competencies, variations in care, and fulfilling any other assigned duties.
  • Requirements for the role include completion of a State Board of Nursing-approved Licensed Practical Nursing Program and at least 2 years of experience. Successful completion of an IV therapy program within 4 months of hire/transfer is mandatory. The LPN must operate at the top of their license in a med/surg/tele or Emergency Department setting, demonstrating the necessary knowledge and skills. They should be adept at assessing patient needs based on age-specific requirements and department policies. The LPN must identify areas for process improvement, collaborate with the healthcare team, and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders. Proficiency in working within a complex environment, handling multiple priorities, and utilizing specialized equipment is necessary. Strong physical stamina, manual dexterity, and computer skills for electronic health records are essential.
  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • - Active LPN state licensure or in a compact agreement state
  • - Completion of IV therapy program within 4 months of hire/transfer if graduated pre-2012
  • - Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • - Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC) certification within 60 days of hire and annually
  • - LPN licensure
