Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor safeguards the Owner's investments by overseeing machinery and facility maintenance, emphasizing adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs for safety and environmental stewardship. Steering continuous improvement involves refining policies and procedures, providing leadership to personnel, and ensuring effective task execution. Additionally, managing maintenance operations optimizes equipment performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, contributing to informed decision-making through comprehensive reporting and budget monitoring.

Primary Duties

  • Ensure the protection of the Owner's investment in machinery, equipment, and facilities by overseeing the monitoring, inspection, maintenance, and control of all production, auxiliary, and facility equipment.
  • Lead the plant leadership team in driving compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs, prioritizing safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Regularly review and update plant policies and procedures to align them with current plant goals and operational requirements, ensuring clarity and relevance.
  • Provide clear direction, motivation, and supervision to personnel, fostering effective and efficient performance through performance appraisals, rewards, discipline, and management skills.
  • Manage a Permit to Work (PTW) system in accordance with relevant company and regulatory standards, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Assign daily tasks, supervise task execution, and evaluate performance to ensure effective completion of responsibilities and tasks.
  • Develop, track, and manage long-term maintenance plans, employing organized planning methods for day-to-day activities, including weekly and monthly plans, to optimize equipment performance and reliability.
  • Coordinate contractor support for equipment repair or maintenance, overseeing work scope, negotiations, contract development, and implementation, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead the planning of maintenance outages, applying effective time management principles and providing relevant information to the Maintenance Manager regarding equipment availability and reliability, minimizing downtime.
  • Implement preventive, predictive, scheduled, and corrective maintenance planning, and procedures to support equipment operation and minimize disruptions to plant operations.
  • Maintain comprehensive equipment history and operating records, including equipment operating hours, maintenance downtime, cost, availability, and manpower utilization, and provide regular reports to the Plant Manager for informed decision-making.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager in developing and monitoring the plant budget, operating plan, and technician development initiatives, optimizing resource allocation and workforce capabilities.
  • Participate in facility audits as requested by the company, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, and distribution panels, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
  • Coordinate the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems, such as Distributed Control System (DCS), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, to facilitate smooth plant operation and minimize downtime.
  • Manage the maintenance and optimization of the Valmet DCS, including software updates, system diagnostics, and integration with plant equipment, to enhance control efficiency and reliability.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet changing operational needs and priorities.

All NAES managers and supervisors have a direct and important role in ensuring that all work is performed in a healthy and safe manner. Effectiveness in carrying out this responsibility is part of the evaluation of each Supervisor's performance. This includes, but is not limited to, the following functions:
  • Conduct/Support Regular Safety Meetings (at least monthly).
  • Address Safety at all Group Meetings.
  • Conduct Inspections and Observations: establish within the department a regular inspection of the work area and a safety observation process of work being performed.
  • Establish and lead these activities following any rules, requirements or guidance established in your business unit, group, or division.
  • Involve all NAES teammates in the activities.
  • Analyze result, write work orders, train, and educate to eliminate hazards, at-risk behavior and meet company regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct Regular Observation Tours: Conduct no less than two safety observation tours of high-risk activities e.g., confined space to verify that employees are performing the work in accordance with safe practices, company procedures and OSHA regulations.
  • Regular and Frequent Contacts: conduct one-on-one contact sessions with workers to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations and coach safe behaviors, e.g., whether the employee is wearing all required personal protective equipment.
  • Respond to Incidents: respond to all safety-related incidents including, but not limited to injuries, incidents and near misses; write a report that explains what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective action following any established business unit or division practice. Follow up as necessary to ensure that corrective action is taken.
Working Relationships

The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Manager and works closely with local IBEW union maintenance personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial compensation will range from $108,200 to $130,000, and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Associate degree in a technical field desirable.
  • Comprehensive expertise in machinery, equipment, and facility maintenance, covering monitoring, inspection, and control of production, auxiliary, and facility equipment to protect company investments.
  • Extensive experience in electrical systems maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety standards and adept at troubleshooting to minimize downtime and maintain plant operation.
  • Proficient in maintaining and troubleshooting control systems like DCS systems, optimizing them for efficiency and reliability, including software updates and diagnostics.
  • Proven leadership in driving compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs within the plant leadership team, fostering safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Demonstrated ability to review, update, and align plant policies and procedures with operational goals for clarity, relevance, and effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication and supervision skills to provide clear direction, motivation, and supervision to personnel, ensuring efficient performance.
  • Proficiency in managing a Permit to Work (PTW) system for safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities in developing and managing long-term maintenance plans, optimizing equipment performance, and supporting plant operations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License at all times.
