Job Summary
This employee is a paraprofessional.

The Deputy Clerk position in the Criminal and Civil offices performs routine tasks to provide skilled administrative support to judges and quasi-legal services to the public.


Essential Job Functions
All duties of the Criminal and Civil Deputy Clerk are essential functions.

There are no supervisory skills required, however they may be tasked with teaching temporary and part-time employees the needed skills to review case information for proper entry in a multitude of state computer systems.

The list below encompasses the general requirements of all division as court functioning

  • Prepares, organizes, and maintains the court's criminal and civil litigation files
  • Drafts routine correspondence, memoranda, court orders and reports to state agencies when required by statute
  • Provides support to Circuit Court Judges, including during court proceedings
  • Drafts criminal and assists with civil orders, reviews pleadings, notices of appeal and other
correspondence and identifies applicable timelines

  • Issues notices, subpoenas, capiases, and writs, assists in scheduling civil cases for specific docket calls for each judge
  • Maintains Circuit Case Management System, Financial Accounting System, Case Imaging System, Appeals Modules, Digital Appellant Record System, CaseForm System, Electronic Voucher Pay System, and others dependent upon need
  • Reviews daily and weekly reports related to case age to assure proper timely rules as provided by the Code of Virginia
  • Reviews and produces Concealed Handgun Permits and reports to Virginia State Police proper information
  • Assists all senior staff in completing other assigned duties for the office

Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of courtroom procedures, operations of the Clerk of the Circuit Court office, departmental procedures, guidelines; Federal, State and County laws applicable to the operation of the Clerk
  • Basic knowledge of financial transactions and receipting
  • Knowledge of legal procedures, terminology, and instruments of the court

Skills

  • Effective oral and writing communication skills
  • Must be an accurate, fluent typist able to prepare documents and transfer data into digital files in a fastpaced environment

Abilities

  • Ability to deal with situations requiring tact, diplomacy, fairness, and good judgment
  • Ability to take necessary actions and maintain and establish an effective working relationship with public, officials, judges, attorneys, and other agencies using both oral and writing skills
  • Maintain regular work attendance

Pay:
$42,500.00 per year
