Duties:


In this Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security individuals involved in providing multi-faceted analysis products including reports and real-time communication in support of intelligence and law enforcement operations.


This position starts at a salary of $42, GS-05, Step 01) to $67, GS-07, Step 10) with promotion potential to $83,027 (GS-9 Step 10).


Typical duties of this assignment include:

  • Creating intelligence reports based on extrapolated data, research and analysis that is used by Border Patrol Agents to predict, detect, deter, and apprehend terrorists, terrorist related weapons, migrants, human smugglers, illicit drugs and other contraband from entering or attempting to enter the United States.
  • Independently analyzing tactical surveillance video and imagery in conjunction with sensor alerts and other resources to detect and identify threats and incursions entering the U.S. and relaying that information to agents in real time.
  • Providing agents with rapid access to US Border Patrol historical activity data via Enterprise Geospatial Information Services to provide situational awareness and aid in operational effectiveness in real time.
  • Utilizing a variety of law enforcement information systems including but not limited to: Automated Targeting System, Targeting Framework, Intelligence Report System, and Intelligent Computer Assisted Detection (ICAD) to conduct data mining and analysis.

Qualifications:

Experience:
You qualify for the
GS-05 grade level if you possess 3 years of general experience which demonstrates ability in performing duties such as:

  • Analyzing problems to identify significant factors
  • Gathering pertinent data and recognizing solutions
  • Planning and organizing work

Education Substitution (GS-05):Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.

Experience:
You qualify for the
GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Researching and performing data analysis in law enforcement and intelligence activities
  • Evaluating and interpreting information from various sources
  • Designing, assembling and organizing data from multiple internal and external databases and information systems

Graduate Education (GS-07):Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours.-
Combining Education and Experience:Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. (When crediting education that requires specific course work, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used.)
