Michael Foods, Inc. is situated in Gaylord, Minnesota, which is recognized as Minnesota's Healthy Heartland. Gaylord is positioned in south-central Minnesota, approximately an hour to the west of the Twin Cities and 35 minutes away from Mankato, Hutchinson, and New Ulm. As the County Seat, Gaylord serves as the central hub of Sibley County. Our location specializes in the production of liquid egg, hard-cooked egg, and pre-cooked egg varieties such as scrambled eggs, patties, and omelets.

**Job Overview:**
Under the oversight of the Safety Manager, the Safety Assistant will provide administrative support to the HR Department and will assist in conducting training sessions, orientations, and reviewing written materials.

**Tasks and Responsibilities:**
- Monitor and assess various data sets including safety inspections, exposure level tests, incidents, safety incentive programs, and SDS compliance.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections as directed by the Safety Manager.
- Aid in the investigation of unsafe incidents, ergonomic occurrences, and injuries.
- Champion health and wellness initiatives through events like health fairs, education programs, and training sessions.
- Coordinate committee meetings involving safety, ergonomics, first responders, hazmat teams, and others.
- Educate and communicate safety protocols to employees through group sessions, conferences, orientations, newsletters, etc.
- Collaborate with supervisors, managers, contractors, and maintenance staff on project implementations to ensure safety compliance.
- Adhere to safety policies and OSHA regulations, promoting a culture of safety within the organization.
- Compile and generate reports, verify data accuracy, and distribute information to relevant parties.
- Act as a leader within plant teams, oversee action items, and fulfill additional duties as required.
- Uphold safe work practices, adhere to GMP standards, and maintain product quality.
- Report any observed conditions or practices that may compromise food or personnel safety.
- Ensure the safety and quality of MFI products.

**Qualifications:**

**Educational Background and Work Experience Requirements:**
- Proficient in written and verbal communication.
- At least 2 years of experience in fields such as safety, human resources, or business. - Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. - Sound knowledge of OSHA regulations. - An Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

**Preferred Qualifications and Skills:**
- Display effectiveness in collaborating across all organizational levels and being a team-oriented individual. - Strong attention to detail and adept at problem-solving and multitasking. - Certification in First Aid/CPR/AED or First Responder is highly desirable. - Previous experience in a risk management setting is advantageous. - Ability to lead meetings and provide training to employees at all levels. - Willingness to travel to other MFEPC locations for safety audits. - Flexibility to work varied hours and shifts, as well as attend off-site training sessions. - Capable of working independently, setting priorities, and achieving objectives with minimal supervision. - Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus. - Competency in mathematical operations, ability to interpret documents, write reports, and communicate effectively in group settings.
