Position Overview:


The Grants & Contracts Specialist position in UMBC's Office of Sponsored Programs provides an excellent opportunity to gain and utilize knowledge and experience in university research administration functions and activities.

Applicants with experience will be considered for the Senior level Specialist.

Responsibilities:

Grants & Contracts Specialist:

OSP works with the unitadministratorsto provide assistance to faculty/staff with proposal preparation, applicable sponsor guidelines,as well assponsored projects training, education and communication.

OSP works closely with the Office of Contract and Grant Accounting (OCGA) in managingall extramuralawardsandcampus outreach initiatives for sponsored projects.

The Specialist assists with the review, approval, submission and general administration of extramural proposals, and the negotiation and administration of extramural awards and unfunded agreements.

The Specialist will also assist their assigned OSP Manager with administrative support of any other functional areas of responsibility. Functional areas include Training, Sub-recipient Administration, Data and eRA support, and Closeout. The Specialist will participate in training and development involving a variety of extramural proposal and award administration activities.

They will develop an understanding of OSP areas of responsibility; become familiar with other units in the Office of Research and Creative Achievement (ORCA), as well as how other external central groups like OCGA, Office of General Counsel (OGC), Procurement, etc.

Senior Grants & Contracts Specialist:


The Senior Specialist will have all of the Specialist duties but will have obtained a great knowledge and exhibited abilities associated with OSP operations.

The Senior Specialist will perform with greater independence and minimal supervisory oversight. The Senior Specialist will also assume independent Manager level responsibility for a small technical unit(s) or Functional area(s). The Sr. Specialist will also assist entry level Specialists as needed.

This position has a working knowledge of OSP's functionalities and responsibilities; and, additionally, how other ORCA as well as external central groups like OCGA, OGC, Procurement, etc.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
The Grants & Contracts Specialist position requires a Bachelor's Degree.

Consideration for the Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of two years of experience reviewing research proposals for sponsor requirements, preferably in higher education.

Both positions require excellent communication, organization and customer service skills and proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Kuali Research and other electronic research administration systems. Knowledge of federal regulations relating to grants and/or contracts (OMB Circular 2 CFR 200, FAR, etc.).
