We are looking for engineers with hands on electrical design and field experience. If you can design and operate electrical systems, have an understanding of the critical equipment needs for a data center, and understand the constructability of varying designs you may be a good fit. As we grow, we are structuring our team to own more of our engineering in house. In this role, you will work with the Principals and the Senior Electrical Engineers to drive the standardization of designs across the global region in production data centers and resolve open technical issues in the electrical space. You will participate in the research and development of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services. You will be also responsible for writing technical documentation for such projects. You must be capable of defining critical equipment specifications and approving equipment submittals. Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but should not be more than 30%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary. Support could consist of working with international teams and could require developing drawing details and schematics. An understanding of international electrical design requirements is preferable.

Key job responsibilities

Under the direction of an engineering manager, the Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the following:

Conceives initiates and leads projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation and implementation.

Decompose complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions.

Work with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges.

Collaborate with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures and countries.

Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.

Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports.

Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Electrical Basis of Design (BoD) with constant auditing.

Drive standardization in the data center electrical designs.

Development of strategic solutions, which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.

Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions.

Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects.

Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment.

Review and approval of critical equipment submittals including vendor Witness Tests.

Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSEs), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans.

Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.

Maintain and host technical electrical forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of datacenter electrical systems.

Provide support and mentorship for the whole of the Data Center Engineering community.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors degree in an electrical engineering.

Cumulative 5+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.

Excellent understanding of applicable regional electrical code (NEC, CEC, ETCI, NF C, etc).

In depth understanding of critical data center electrical equipment.

Possess leadership and problem solving skills.

Be a motivated, highly dependable individual.

Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.

Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction.

An ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability, or maintainability.

Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards

Working experience with Revit or similar BIM software

Preferred Qualifications

Cumulative 7+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design

. 3+ years of experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design.

Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, or regional equivalent.

Familiarity with medium voltage distribution systems design.

Detailed understanding of uninterruptable power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, and automatic/static transfer switches.

Direct experience with the construction, operation, or maintenance of data centers.

Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design.

Experience with fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects.

Experience with large-scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms.

Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market.
