Job Summary

The Manager of Business Insights for Advanced Analytics Lab (AAL) is responsible for the guidance and oversight of a core group of data analysts supporting short and long-term operational and/or strategic business initiatives.

Working in a highly matrixed environment, the Manager of Business Insights will need to directly and indirectly guide team members, consult and create partnerships with business colleagues and have the leadership skills to influence outcomes.

This role manages all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating direct-reports.
Duties


Provides oversight to a team of data analysts responsible for: monitoring, explaining and improving operational and financial performance for L.A.

Care's products (e.g. MediCal, LACC) and key operational processes (e.g. Claims processing, Encounter processing, PDRs); oversee requirements, functionality and data quality for developing and enhancing analytics dashboards, to provide visualization on L.A.

care clinical, utilization and financial performance; work with big data to support medical fraud investigations and medical cost reduction opportunities through complex data analysis and visualization; support organizational blue chips through building analytical frameworks to drive new business opportunities, measure implementation and ongoing process outputs and provide course correction support as require; continued management and development of analytic abstraction data layers that support the team's data analysis and solutions; engage IT data management regarding the team's evolving data strategy and needs.


  • In partnership with other AAL Analytics leaders, develop business "data scientist" capabilities and cultivate deep analytical skills including data mining, visualization, data blending and manipulation to drive more meaning from the data and drive process improvements (e.g. reduce medical costs).
  • Internalize business problems, translate them into actionable analyses or solutions, develop reports, and prepare presentations of complex analytic concepts and research results to nonanalytical audiences.
  • Manages all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating directreports. Responsible for handling questions or issues raised by staff; encourages staff to participate and provide recommendations for relevant process and systems enhancements.

Equivalency: Completion of the L.A. Care Management Certificate Training Program may substitute for the supervisory/management experience requirement.
