Assistant Director of Student Activities

Overview:
The Assistant to the Directors for Student Programs and Student Activities supports in planning, developing, executing, and managing Hillsdale College student life programming that facilities student involvement and engagement.
The Assistant will supervise building and employment operations within the Grewcock Student Union and partner with the Student Activities Director and Director of Student Programs to enhance student life in accord with the Mission of Hillsdale College.
Responsibilities:
Grewcock Student Union:
Manage, train, and supervise the Student Director of the Grewcock Student Union and all Grewcock Student Union and mailroom workers.
Submit work orders as necessary with maintenance and custodial staff on any building maintenance or cleaning needs.
Manage inventory and security of game/recreational equipment available for check out.
Curate Women's Programming:
Design and publish the Curate Magazine.
Plan and execute the annual Curate Summit event with the assistance of the Director of Student Activities and the Director of Student Programs.
Student Leadership Workshop:
Plan and execute Student Leadership Workshop including but not limited to location reservation, full itinerary, lectures, assessments, assignments, transportation, food, and housing needs for students.
Web site Management and Graphic Design:
Manage and update the Student Affairs Web pages including but not limited to: Orientation, Campus Activities, Curate, Health and Wellness, Fitness, Faith events.
Orientation:
Assist the Director of Student Activities and the Director of Student Programs in planning and executing Freshman Orientation events and activities.
Assist the Director of Student Programs in all aspects of student extracurriculars including, but not limited to, Leadership Development Programs, GOAL Programs, Student Activities Board, Student Federation, Residence Life, Student Clubs and Organizations, Grewcock Student Union, New Student Orientation and Extended Orientation Programs.
Routinely work with College staff, outside vendors, community officials, and the general public concerning equipment, facilities, events, and contracts.
Initiate and execute projects for general campus improvement as directed by the Vice President of Student Affairs and/or the Director of Student Programs and/or Director of Student Activities.
Attend necessary staff meetings.
Pursue various professional development programs.
Represent Hillsdale College at meetings and conferences as appropriate.
Remain accessible and available at the College in time and presence to insure the proper management and operation of Student Affairs.
Maintain a working proficiency in or work towards furthering knowledge in: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi, Mail Chimp, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, Premier Pro), digital photography, videography.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed satisfactorily. Must be able to drive and possess a valid Michigan Driver's License.
Education and Experience
This position requires a bachelor's degree with experience in the supervision of others in developing and maintaining successful student programs with an understanding and appreciation of the liberal arts curriculum and Mission of Hillsdale College.
Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills.
Ability to develop knowledge of office procedures.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.
Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies.
Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate volunteers.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to supervise and train students to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Ability to plan, organize and direct multiple programs and activities
Possess an excellent understanding of management techniques.
Knowledge of customer service standards and techniques.
Knowledge of principles and procedures of student government.
Ability to plan and evaluate programs.
Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
Knowledge and experience of needs presented by students within a college environment.
Personal Characteristics
The Student Activities Office interacts with College staff, students, outside vendors, and other College constituents. A neat appearance and pleasant demeanor that is supportive of the College mission is essential. Creativity, adaptability, and a strong work ethic are needed to excel in this role.
