**Job Description and Duties**

The CalSTRS Audit Services Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Associate Management Auditor and shall consider a Staff Services Management Auditor in the Internal Audits Unit.

CalSTRS delegated authority to Audit Services to perform audits in order to evaluate a school employers compliance with the Teachers Retirement Law. The mission of Audit Services is to provide independent, objective assurance through audit and consulting services designed to add value and improve CalSTRS operations. Audit Services assists CalSTRS in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, internal control and governance processes. Audit Services is an integral part of the accomplishment of goals and objectives established for CalSTRS operations and programs. Audit Services consists of Employer and Internal Audits.

The Internal Audit Unit provides risk-based and objective assurance, advice and insight to assist management in ethically, effectively and efficiently fulfilling their management responsibilities. The Internal Audit team executes an approved audit plan based upon an annual risk assessment, or as requested by the CalSTRS board and/or CalSTRS Executive Staff. The team performs audits of internal operations and will perform the following in accordance with its overall strategy: Provide objective assurance on the effectiveness of enterprise risk management activities to help ensure key business risks are being managed appropriately and that the system of internal control is operating effectively. Verify the existence of assets and recommend proper safeguards for their protection. Examines, evaluates and reports on the adequacy and reliability of existing internal controls. Assess compliance with state and federal laws, contractual obligations, policies and procedures and sound business practices. Review operations/programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and whether the operations/programs are being carried out as planned.

Under the supervision of the Senior Management Auditor (Supervisor), the Associate Management Auditor (AMA) independently plans, conducts, and reports results of CalSTRS internal audits; and performs complex and difficult auditing assignments and projects. Audit work is performed in accordance with applicable State policies and procedures and the Institute of Internal Auditors International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (ISPPIA), and its Practice Guides and Code of Ethics. This position requires the ability to work independently, develop audit objectives, conduct preliminary surveys, prepare audit plans, and develop audit programs that achieve audit objectives of specific audits and special projects. This position may also receive direction from a Staff Management Auditor (Specialist) and/or Staff Program Auditor (SPA).

**The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:**

+ Knowledge and basic understanding of the Internal Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.

+ Ability to plan, organize and conduct compliance audits.

+ Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff and auditees.

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.

+ Ability to write clearly and concisely.

+ Ability to prioritize and complete assignments timely.

+ Excellent time management and organizational skills.

+ Ability to use various software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TeamMate+.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

**Telework Information:** We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento **2 days on-site, 3 days remote. (anchor days currently Monday and Tuesday)**

**Working Conditions**

All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.
