Job Overview:Are you an enthusiastic and creative biochemist, virologist, or biomedical engineer ready to take on one of the major challenges in science? The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) has launched the Antigens Predicted for Broad Viral Efficacy through Computational Experimentation (APECx) program to transform vaccine discovery. As a key member of the team, you will serve as the scientific and technical advisor, offering support and innovative ideas to the delivery team responsible for cutting-edge computational methods for vaccine antigen discovery.

Responsibilities:

**What You Will Be Doing:**

Provide specialized knowledge in virology and immunology:
  • Advise on the selection of viral families and specific viruses for investigation within the program.
  • Analyze and interpret viral sequence and functional data to identify potential targets for broad-spectrum vaccines.
  • Assess the diversity of viral strains within targeted families and provide guidance on addressing this diversity in computational models.
  • Evaluate and guide antigen selection and design:
  • Assess computationally predicted vaccine candidates focusing on viral characteristics and possible immune escape mechanisms.
  • Recommend experimental validation methods to evaluate the breadth and efficacy of vaccine candidates in vitro and in vivo.
  • Transform scientific understanding of viral antigens and immune responses into practical advice for computational scientists and engineers.
Stay informed about scientific progress:
  • Actively monitor and analyze recent research in virology, immunology, and vaccine development relevant to the APECx program.
  • Identify and suggest emerging methodologies and technologies that can advance the program's development.
  • Engage in scientific conversations and presentations, contributing your expertise to the collective knowledge base of the program.
  • Collaborate effectively within a diverse team:
  • Establish strong ties with computational scientists, engineers, and other scientific advisors partaking in the program.
  • Communicate complex scientific ideas clearly and succinctly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Attend brainstorming sessions and problem-solving activities to propel the program's progress.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in virology, immunology, pathology, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated solid knowledge in viral pathogenesis, immune responses to viruses, and vaccine development.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research, analyze data, and draft scientific reports.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in research related to viral illnesses and/or vaccine development.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Capability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Dedication to scientific discovery and a strong work ethic.
  • Must hold U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency.
